That is a HORRIBLE idea. Who in the hell told you 50/50 is natural?

Google has stated that about 3-4% of the links they crawl are nofollow, not 50%.

So the Google policy is 3-4%? Remember were talking policy here. A general statement is not a policy.

If anything it would be an average based on all sites/pages/links Google has ever crawled since introducing nofollow. No two sites would ever have the same percentage. One site could have 1% nofollow links, the next site could have 73% nofollow links.

A normal percentage of nofollow links is to not be counting nofollow links to begin with. People outside of SEO/IM don't count link types, that's normal.

No offense Mike, I think what you said has been taken out of context.

As far as OPs idea. Why?

No offense taken. I didn't mean to imply that anyone should target 3-4% nofollow links, or that they should target any percentage for that matter.

Like you said, different websites are going to vary wildly, but feeling like you need to hit a 50/50 mix makes no sense.

The thing you have to remember is whenever Prowebstakht posts he does so as a fake user.

Remember his SEO tips he heard from that habitat for humanity meeting?

50-50 is NOT a very good idea. Don't go with more than 10% nofollow. 10% is a high number too, but if you have thousands of backlinks, one hundred is great for nofollow backlinks. Are you sure that you are not talking about keywords? 50 for your main keyword and 50 for second keywords along with "click here" keywords?

Like has been said already, I don't know why you'd want 50/50 but if you want nofollow the easiest way is to get some blog comments or you could get some Elgg, BuddyPress or JCow links.

Thanks Yukon for the info. I never actually counted the ratio of dofollow and nofollow. Never thought they are that important.

It's good to mix in some nofollow backlinks in your backlinking portfolio. I've read and performed a lot of test and nofollow backlinks do help. It is a controversial subject, but I have first hand experience.. so I am happy to stick with what works
