If so what do you target? Do you build web 2.0's (hubpages/squidoo), articles, blog comments, socials (dig, stumbleupon, reddit, facebook)

What do you do to rank your site?

What do you do to rank your site?
Yes, quite honestly link building is still essential to SEO however onsite is vitally important, link building gives you the edge over the competition but without first filling the foundations your building wouldn't get very high.

Some practical tips for offsite SEO:
    - Get a good diversity of links; web 2.0 works well, contextual linsk and article directories still work well, social bookmarks work well depending on how you do it (very delicate actually), and social signals are a good thing.

    1) However the main thing isn't about the "link type" but how you approach it; there can be two person doing web 2.0 links but that's widely categorized, if one is putting their links on crap low PR web 2.0 and using duplicated content it won't help them much but if someone else is properly using web 2.0 with high quality content and then building promotions to those web 2.0 content then those links will be very powerful.

We also find that spun content actually still works but try to keep it very cleanly spun and detailed spun; actually Jonathan ledger offered this service a while back to get some writers deeply spining content and then members can generate for unique content...it worked well.

Key Idea: The link type is important but ALSO THE INDIVIDUAL LINK SOURCE (The site PR and how to go about creating the link and the page)

    2) the only thing I would avoid in offsite link building would mostly be blog comments and forum profiles; they are too widely use and carry little vlaue...sure not to discredit them completely but it's hard to find them effective with all the spammed list. Too high risk and not quality links

Key Idea: Avoid spammy links that carry little value; when something is overused, generally it is easily slapped (social bookmark an exception - widely used but still whitehat when done right)

    3) Ideally the kind of links you want to look for aren't links that just increase your backlink count but links that also help to increase your website visibility is a general rule.

Key Idea: Try to promote your site instead of just strictly thinking about links; that way you can get natural link building which is the best choice. (Also consider your general backlink profile)

There are many other tips we can give for onsite but I think you can search it up, it's hard to outline everything in one post so we hope the three key offsite tips will suffice for your thread.

Links are still king but so many people got burnt by going crazy with rot like profile links and spammed blog comments that they still can't sit down after their Google punishment. If you're a bit nervous after your last knock down then focus on links that bring you traffic.

Some of the work people are putting into tiered structures via web 2.0 properties is unbelievable and seemingly inefficient. It reminds me of the link-wheel phase 3 or 4 years ago.

Creation of quality content that will help real people is more effective than link building because it can generate natural backlinks that will help your website rank in search engine in long term duration.

Without building backlinks, it is very difficult to get good position in SERP. Just quality content in website, meta tags or other on page optimization can’t helps you if you want to be at top.

I use many methods like guest posting, slideshare, YouTube, Articles, Forums, soundcloud, issu, scribd and many more.

If you can turn a blog post into a podcast then a YouTube video then a small ebook then you can publish different kinds of content from the one blog post you may have created!!! Also builds backlinks and drives traffic!!

I get links from high PR sites, niche related if possible. I use my main KW's as the anchor for these links. I'll then go out and get from web 2.0's, doc sharing sites etc etc, just to diversify and dilute the anchor.

Back links are the major part of SEO , add quality and fresh content to your website as well as submit fresh article in article directories with the ration 1:1 that means one article per website is good resource for getting back links.

In a recent video by Matt Cutts, he said Google isn't giving any sort of importance to Article Marketing techniques. Primarily because the existing article marketing sites are already spammed out So where the hell will SEO go?

There are quite a few methods of backlinking via Tumblr. I'm launching a mentoring programme soon that teaches you my strategies. It's been very successful and my students have seen real results. You can also use Tumblr for quicker indexing and leverage tons of free traffic.

      It's really exciting.

Link building still works, the thing is you should not repeat the same thing again and again, try to make it natural, varying anchor text works fine today!
