Do backlink checkers ever "refresh" to not show deleted links?

Hi guys,

I have a website that did have a load of spammy backlinks from a poor blog network, but I've since had them removed.

When the links were active they obviously showed up within webmaster tools and also other backlink checkers like open site explorer.

I'm aware that these backlink checkers and even webmaster tools will show these links as active even when they've just been removed but wondered if they ever do eventually update and not show up in a report?

Reason I ask is that although all my bad links have been removed, if I was to sell this site in the future, if someone was to check the backlink portfolio using any popular tool... they would still see all these previous bad links (well, the pages they were on).

Even if they could see for themselves that the links are now removed, it still may give a bad impression and lead to general concern. It's something I'd look into if I was buying a site.

So, do the backlink checkers ever update to reflect this? Is there any way to make it happen?

Thanks a lot!

They will eventually, but it is against their interest, so it could take months. Unfortunately, the "battle of the backlink checkers" has turned into battle of the numbers - the more backlinks one checker reports, the "better" it is. This is the reason they don't remove dead links for months or report a single blog comment on a single page as thousands of links.

The users are to blame as well - most webmasters like the tool that reports the highest number of backlinks for their own site, it makes them feel good, even when the number is inflated or forged.

Your best course of action would be to wait until most of the links are removed and then list your site for sale
