Does this message indicate a manual or an automatic penalty. By the way the site in question is completely deindexed now.

    Doesn't matter if it's automatic or manual. The concern is, your site's pages are violating Google's terms, which is not good.

    If it is an automatic penalty, it would be much easier to sort it out, as it is much easier to deal with bots than humans.

    I do not care if i broke or not google's guidelines, as long as they do not notice it and my visitors are happy.

    To meet google's "manual review" guidelines I would need to sacrifice my conversion rate.
