Wordpress homepage: Static or Latest Posts?

I'd like to know which one of the two is best from both the SEO and human perspective. I think that the people who are visiting my site ( 4-5 uniques per day... ) go away because the homepage is currently filled with the latest posts and they rarely go to another page (average pages/visit is 1.3-1.5). I've been thinking whether it would be a good idea to have a static homepage, but I thought I should ask you people for advice first. Anyone?

  • Do you have a list of the most recent posts near the top in your sidebar for them to see everything else the website has to offer?
  • I think its better to have your posts on the first page, if you update your blog on a regular basis then your visitors will see you are active, if you target a keyword for your main home page then updated content also helps to rank in the search engines
  • Hi, Before I started my blog I asked myself the same question!
    Having categories with post related to them in it works great for me! We have each category displaying the 5 most recent posts on the home page. Perfect navigation for users + shows new content, keeping home page fresh!

  • The idea of having Recent Post in the sidebar on the right would be a lot helpful. You can adjust the settings as to how many posts you want to appear in that.
  • Making your home page static will make bot to visit your site frequently. Have a proper page navigation in your home page for visitors to select their page they want to view. This helps users for easy navigation and also makes bot to crawl pages of your site.
  • Have your most recent posts on top. People like to see fresh content. Certainly show a list of the most recent posts in your side bar.
  • WP has sticky post,you can show case 3-5 post with read more tags and other 5 can be related post,order them to your liking,keep in mind, that whats important to you,might be not to your reader. Check what users reads the most on your site,make them appear on tom.

    Something I do is use small images that link to relevant blog post, I've averaged around 7 page views per unique traffic for a few years.
  • recent updated posts at the first page is better, I think, because the visitors can always see the new content, do you think so? When balancing SEO and user experience, the UE is important than SEO.
  • It all depends of the purpose of your website. If it's a blog then showing your latest posts is the way to go. If you have a website and you don't regularly update your content then have a static page with the best information up front so people see exactly what they were looking for and add a ton of links in that article that go to other articles on your website.

    • Well said. Also if you do decide to show the recent posts on the homepage, make sure to get rid of the blog page then.
