i'll give a serious answer.
why use a vps for automated tools:
sometimes tools require lots of bandwidth, if you did that on your home pc you wouldn't even be able to watch utube, your teenage daughter would complain.
also it's usually several 100's of times faster having a 100mb or gigabit connection
some ppl don't want to leave their pc's on all day.

even if you have a nice quad/8core computer with 16gigs of ram, tools will, overtime take up resources and if you just leave it running for a day, you might not even be able to "work" at a decent rate.

even if you think you're "safe" using a vps for tools, you should use proxies, otherwise most vps' will suspend your account once they get too many notices from stopforumspam or whatever annoying places.
