Duplicate Content Question

Hello Everyone,

Here's my question if I have RSS feeds from my blog, hopeful that other sites will publish my articles, and crossing my fingers that at some point in time a blog will go viral, or even semi-viral, how does Google know when I am making blatant attempts to post duplicate material and when it's happening as a result of a high quality article that has gained traction because other sites view it as a valuable resource?

  • If your article webpage gets indexed first, google is intelligent enough to tell that the subsequent re-publishing of your articles are mainly shared by readers.

Google sees this as syndication, not duplication, so you will not be penalized (you'll get promoted through the rankings instead, from all these social signals.)

    • This is true. Nice reply, but I would like to say something different too. You should be really careful that Google will visit your website FIRST! If the other site will be indexed first, then your main website would be marked as "duplicated content"...
  • Yes!! Getting indexed is an important thing here. You will get the credit only if your site gets indexed fast.

    • That is true. My wordpress method for avoiding this trap is simple.

Just have a sitemap submission plugin built-in to your site.

It will submit the updated sitemap to google.

New sitemap = Fresh robot crawl = your content is indexed first 99.99% of the time!
