I use godaddy auctions to buy mine just because it is quick and easy. The value is potential existing page rank (you will need to get content up quick once it is transferred to keep the pr), possible dmoz listed, but the domain age is the biggest boost imo. You can use the expired domain as you main site or you can put one page up and then 301 it your main site. This will help pass domain age to your site. If you 301 the site you can use the redirected site as a buffer for link building. The aged domain can take more links than a new domain so you can build links to the expired domain. This is an old trick and will probably get recognized by the se sooner or later.

Well it is up to you how you see fit to use it. Yes I would add one piece of original content to the expired domain and let it get indexed so the SE know you are back in business. Then after it is indexed give an old 301 and you are set. Now you can build some links to the expired domain and the juice will shoot to your main site.

In case the expired domain haves a lot of back links and a lot of pages index,
i still need to upload content?

Depends on what you're trying to do. If you want to have the site rank in search engines then yes, you'll need to upload content.

By the way if you want to rebuild the old website then you should see if it's on Internet Archive: Digital Library of Free Books, Movies, Music & Wayback Machine. If it's available on archive.org you can reuse the old content instead of having to generate new content for it.

No need to upload content in that case. Just 301 redirect from cpanel and about 90-95% of the link juice will pass to the new domain.

Expired domains are useful because they often have existing backlinks pointing to them already.

Expired Domains with PR, Backlinks and more completely FREE has a great search function for finding expired domains and it is free. Also, the website in my sig has similar functionality and scrapes complimentary SEO stats to those on Expired Domains.

You can buy it from Godaddy Auction, it is the best place for buying expired domain if the domain was registered with Godaddy..

If it doesn't have any bid then it is moved to closeout section where you can buy for $5 as well.
