Video as Link Bait

I'm curious if anyone has explored using video as a link bait strategy.
To do this, I assume you would have to have some internally hosted video widget with the same or similar functionality as Youtube (ie. some sort of easily imbedable iframe), and the hope would be that people like the video so much they imbed it on their site, thus creating a link via the iframe.
Would this work for SEO?
