Is Domain Authority more important than Page Rank?

Is a PR3 with a DA of 41 better than a PR4 with a DA of 25?

It seems as if DA is more important than Page rank these days, am I wrong?

  • It is a proprietary signal of SEOmoz's. It the big scheme of things, SEOmoz has nowhere near the amount of data or resources that Google does. SEOmoz has lost money since its inception. Google continues to post record profits. So while it can be an okay metric to look at to confirm other insight about a domain, it plays to official role in how Google feels about a domain.

    I would take a legit PR 4 over a legit PR 3 any day of the week.

    • Exactly. I always do take in DA in consideration, but I would rely more on google PR than a private company's information.

  • You know, A pr5 domain name you can buy in just $30 to 50 from any forum, but they don't have good DA...

    • These are fake PRs and wouldn't trust the buyers if it's that price. To fake these PRs, the owner is using a 301 redirect technique. You can test this using info:domainname.com in Google search and try Open Site Explorer.

      In regards to the post, I would take the higher PR but also I do take the DA into consideration.
  • This is an interesting conversation as I am researching DA right now. I have found a keyword where one of the top ranking sites, an authority site, has ranked right under a youtube video with one powerful link rated as a DA 99, this person is clearly showing off

    While one other site needed 1200+ links, yet another site has broken the top 10 with 6 DA links rated > 95 So I think even though Google uses PR they may also take other things into consideration that distinguish two PR 5 rated sites from one another and 3rd party sites such as SEOMoz may be trying to reverse engineer those factors. Just my .02
  • DA is a good thing to have and PR too. But getting real High PR domain, it is good too. As some of the warriors already stated that there are a lot of people who are using redirect methods to show a low PR domain to a high PR one. To me, a brandable domain is most important.
