Silos - standard site vs blog site

I can see how to apply a silo structure to a standard site and using a blogging platform as a CMS for that matter.
However, I can't see how you would apply this to a site which functions as an actual blog.
Bloggers and blog readers would expect a blog home page feed for the whole site (recent posts at least) wouldn't this break the a silo structure?
That is, page leak from the home page linking deep into multiple silos, isn't that what you don't want?
