Using the correct Thumbnail on posts shared on Facebook?

Hi guys,

Just wondering if you could help me.

Every time we share one of our Wordpress posts on Facebook, we are presented with 3 thumbnail images. Sadly, none of them are the correct ones (the feature image), or anything relevant.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? Is there a plugin that can sort this out?

  • FB just chooses. Must be some algo. If you change the
    image, it won't take right away, as they seem to have
    some cache. They might have a way of clearing the
    cache from links. I think I heard abut this, but did no
    further looking. That is, once you share a link, the
    images are stored and must be cleared before a new
    one starts. (I think)

    If you really want an image, only put one on the page,
    and make it small. I'm thinking 100x100 or 200x200.

    Ditch WP and start hand coding, or get a better CMS.

    Sometimes FB will not even fetch an image.

    You can easily do this by adding line of code with the image location in your header.php file.

    Go to the image you want to appear as a thumbnail.
    Right click and select “copy link location” or “copy image url”
    Next go to your wordpress backend and login.
    Go to your themes settings or appearance then editor. Go to header.php or its equivalent.
    Paste this into the head section
    <meta property="og:image" content="THE-URL-OF-YOUR-IMAGE-THAT-YOU-COPIED" />
    You may have to wait a few minutes for this to populate before posting on Facebook but it should work.
