My EMD sites are making a comeback! Wtf?!?! :D

Just logged into Adsense earlier this week to find out a bunch of my EMD sites created before the dreaded Google EMD update are back in rankings and making money.

The confusing part is I have literally done NOTHING to these sites, focusing my time on my sites that weren't affected/penalized and building them into "niche/authority" sites, instead of the 1-5 article micro niche EMD sites.

Researching right now long tail keywords and going to start cranking these into more authority like sites, with more useful user content.

Anybody else see any returns from the abyss? And if so have you done anything to them to help them come back?

There's going to be a lot of fluctuations over the next couple of weeks.

Matt Cutts has announced that there will be a Panda update rolling out this week, followed by a 'big' Penguin update.

Funny someone brought this up. I was checking Serpfox a little while ago and noticed that a few of my "churn and burn" sites seemed to have risen from the grave and are getting a decent amount of traffic again. These sites are also EMDs but I removed Adsense from them once they got hit.

Interesting, I never took off the Adsense on the sites that got hit. Just got discouraged and thought it wouldn't matter in the long run. Cheers!

My EMDs, 6 months old, are ranking in 30-40 place but bounce sometimes. I have build very little backlinks and NONE with the keyword of the domains. The EMD keywords are med competition.

So EMDs were never dead, apparently.

I said EMDs can't die just because they are EMDs in more than 100 posts
I have some EMDs coming back while others were never penalized.

I have seen this happen many times over with my clients who have EMD domains, sometimes they get hit and then other times they come back stronger than ever. I don't think Google has quite made up their mind half the time

Perhaps ranking flux signalling the coming Panda update...usually things go up the day before and then they go back into oblivion. 99% of the EMD sites I see from AMers are garbage.

Same thing on our end. Although Google does jump an awful lot these days, so be sure to continue checking regularly.

    Thanks,

I think this has more to do with the affected sites content and backlink makeup than the fact that they are EMDs.

Regardless, i suspect that this is just a temporary side affect of whatever update Google is rolling out.

What is weird is that I lost half of my google traffic yesterday!! And my site is not an EMD, it is an Authority Site, that is fully credible, no black hat, eveything is natural, with excellent content. I have no idea how I lost my rankings for a lot of keywords (I rank for many keywords).

Something is going on becasue some keywords that never ranked is know ranking on the first page and other keywords that was ranking yesterday is now gone.

Same thing here. I don't know what's happening but I am seeing crazy jumps in positions on a daily basis. One day a site gets 200 visitors, next day the same site only gets 20 visitors and on the third day it's 400.

    It's crazy.

Sites often go up and down, even when you have done nothing to them.

People talk as if EMD is a bad thing. While it may not offer much, if any, SEO benefit anymore, I seriously doubt it will hurt a site.

In other words, what is happening to your sites, apart from the initial drop from losing the benefits EMDs once offered, probably has absolutely nothing to do with the fact they are EMDs. There are so many other things that could do it.

This is quite interesting as my EMDs never went away in the first place. They're still ranking and getting decent traffic.

In 2013, I have stopped with EMDs and moved to the authority model for longevity.

I think it is a wise idea to move on from EMDs to more authority sites. The EMDs may again tumble. But if this is on wide scale, then it is good news!

How did changing micro sites into niche authority sites worked for you (: ?
Are they worth it in your opinion?
