I noticed this site :

dumbbellsforsale.com

The site has obviously good OFF-PAGE SEO, but when I looked for his main keyword "dumbbells for sale" I didn't seen it written even 1 time in the content.

Any thoughts ?

Have a look at the Google cache (text version).

The keyword dumbbell is mentioned 40 times on that one page. The keyword Dumbbells For Sale is mentioned 4 times on the same page.

That site is also targeting this keyword: Dumbbell Set For Sale.

How many times do you think it needs to be on there?

They mentioned the keyword dumbbell 40 times & the [exact] keyword phrase 4 times. I'm thinking he's pretty much maxed out the single page for keyword stuffing.

Mentioning [exact] keyword phrases is only a small part of on-page SEO. Like I said above, he is also targeting the keyword: Dumbbell Set For Sale, which is basically the same keyword as Dumbbells For Sale.

Besides, the site has 40+ pages all targeting pretty much the same keywords. It's not 1 page with only off-page SEO (not that it can't be ranked with only off-page SEO, but why would you want to).

It has Title: "Dumbbells For Sale" and one mention in the footer, but keyword mentioning (denesity) is not so important. Google watches more for user metrics and related terms on the page.

4 times is plenty, on-page seo is of course very important but you don't wan't to over do it. Google isn't stupid so you don't have to post it in every other sentence to let them know what your page is about.

And I don't care what anyone says but having the keywords in the domain can still be a slight advantage as long as your not being silly like whicharethebestdumbellstobuyforrunning.com or some other crazy crap you see people doing.

Good thing he has that massive free shipping banner or those sales would be few and far between. Even still, this is one product that must be tough to compete with land based retailers on.

To the original question...the keyword stuffing seems more than adequate.
