Does using breadcrumbs help seo ?

Hi, I have the yoast seo plugin for wordpress, and noticed the breadcrumbs feature but Im not sure if its worth the messing about and time involved
it looks a bit complicated and I think I would have to nest categories within categories ?
so would it have to be done on a new site only as the urls will change ?

would it also would therefore put pages further away from the home page which i believe would be a negative factor for seo ?

I was wondering if it would help ranking for my categories as they would be repeated in several urls which are high competition keywords ?

Any help from more knowledgeable warriors would be appreciated.:confused:

    Breadcrumbs can add 2-3 extra hyperlinks below the SERP title, so I would say yes it helps optimize for a chance to create a higher CTR in the SERPs. More links on the first SERP page is a good thing.

    • I'm not sure how much it would help SEO, but it's really good for user experience in my opinion. It helps the visitor know where they are in the site, especially if they initially land on an inner page.

  • Bread crumbs not only help in CTR and navigation. Also it increases the internal links in your site.
