What if one day, the guy whom you bought your links from, goes AWOL. Yeh yeah yeah, they say its permanent bla bla bla. Lets 100 of his sites vanished and those links pointing to u creates a vacuum all the sudden. What would google think? It's happened to me before that why i know.

how you differentiate wrong guy from right guy?

If you say by checking clients' reviews then sorry to say, there are plenty of wrong guys have very good reviews on their website. (Obviously those are self-made reviews but you can not know about the validity of reviews)

I may have been a little to vague about that, but what I really mean is you have to be smart if you are going to buy links.

        Lots of factors to consider:

        link network = check footprints
not putting all your eggs in one basket = not totally rely on a single guy who owns a few websites for your links
quality and relevancy of the site
        placement of the link

        and lots, lots more.

Buying links is a bad idea when it is just as easy and costs the same to set up your own network.

I think buying links is an iffy proposition at best. I mean, I know why people do it, but I still am in the camp of placing good, helpful content on a site.

But I am a writer and have a writer's perspective.

That's a great proposition and what google calls for, the problem is, when you do have a quality site and start going off in the direction of google's recommendations, producing quality content etc... and then for years pure crap ranks well above you cause they bought a few links here and there, so to compete in the real world in a lot of niches you need to get links if you want to rank....if you're ranking #1 in a competitive niche without doing this, then congrats my man, you're the 1 in a 1000 who has actually achieved what google always goes on about...

Got to agree with John on this one.

I'm sure a lot of parents tell their sons to be kinda/respectful to girls, then one day you meet a bitch, and are forced to think outside the box.

Its the same thing with google. Just that they are a bigger type of bitch.

Never buy links, earn them. Your good content will automatically earn links for you. Additionally you can do guest blogging. I have found it extremely helpful for my blog.

Diversify is the key - Get links from a few of vendors instead of just one.

Buying links is good for people that have only one or few sites to rank, cheaper then buying let's say 10 strong domains + hosting.

Other people just can't be bothered to setup their own network and thus they buy links. Many are like that, even SEO companies.

Then there are people who have thier own network but not large enough, they might buy links as well.

SO plenty of reasons why to buy links and not setting up / expanding a network.

If you are going to buy links then do it on random basis..

Check some blogs, if you liked that blog, request for links, this would be good idea, I think.

I often get such requests from people indeed, but I never respond to them ,not interested in selling 1 link, maybe I should reply though, who knows how much they are willing to pay.
