If you are on Wordpress and running all-in-on-seo headsup that it default to canonical url formatting. This may not always be to your advantage.

Ok, is it just me, or is anyone else having a hard time understanding what point this article is trying to make?

I understand canonical url formatting well (at least I thought I did), but I'm apparently missing the point here.

Does anyone want to take a stab at interpreting this??

Unless you have your wordpress files installed in a different directory than your public blog url then you won't be affected.

This issue affects blogs where the wordpress installation is sitting in one directory (www.yourdomain.com/wordpress) but your blog address is www.yourdomain.com. This is something that you usually select when you set up your WP installation.

For all blogs where your installation and web address are the same - i.e. your wordPress files are sitting in www.yourdomain.com/wordpress and the url through which people access your blog is also www.yourdomain.com/wordpress you have nothing to worry about.

In fact it will help you with the SE's because it gives them the primary url for each of your articles.

Each of your articles can be accessed via different urls - for example, http://www.yourdomain.com/wordpress/...atest-article/ (the direct url of your article) and also www.yourdomain.com/wordpress/category/page-1/ (the url if you access it via your categories).

You can get around this by noindexing all your archives, which I never bothered to do because Google and Co know this happens on blogs and make allowances.

The other way of getting around it is via the canonical url which the All-in-one now very kindly generates for you.

    Cheers,

    Martin.
