Yeah so I have a keyword that gets 2900 searches per month for a physical baby related product. It's a buying keyword.

I managed to secure .co.uk extension as its mostly UK searches

I installed wordpress, used "all in one seo"
I didnt even upload sitemap to google webmasters.

Last night I bookedmarked my site on mixx because i read somewhere that it gets your site indexed fast so thought "what the heck".

Only one book mark got me indexed and now my site is sitting at position 7 on 1st page of google for a buying keyword. The item sells on amazon for about £120 or so. So commission will be about £4-5 per sale.

I think the main reason why I'm on first page is because of the keyword domain name. Having a keyword in the domain has lots of weight in google I believe.

Will update with sales figures soon........if any lol
I hope i dont get sandboxed!

Michael

BTW I used micro niche finder to help give me the go ahead.

Well done. My experience with new sites is that they can bounce around in the rankings a bit, so don't be too discouraged if your rankings fall. I'll be interested to hear updates on how this works out for you. Hope you get lots of sales.

I call this the Google new content "bump". Google has publicly announced that they give newer content favor in the rankings, at least for a short time.

I've actually been tracking this for about two years, and my conclusions are that new content gets a higher ranking for about two weeks, then unless you've done other activity to secure its ranking, it'll slide down, sometimes several pages.

I've added new content to blogs that instantly shoot to #2-3 and then like clockwork, two weeks later, they fall. I've tested this on completely new domains as well... same thing.

Normally, I'm not a "link chaser", but in this case, I've found that if I wait about a week, and then throw some links at the page, it won't slide down quite as far as if I did nothing.

This was exactly what I was talking about before on my site and even explaining to people. New content will quickly rank high, but then get dropped.

Now, ranking #1 on the first page from a single bookmark. That's crazy. At least Michael has gotten himself back on page one and doing well. Good job, Michael.

I guess it was because of the QDF factor.

it makes sense coz usually people search for a website using the name of the product which in this case is also your keyword.

Congratulations to you, but be aware that your site's ranking can fluctuate for several weeks and could even dissapear from the first 10 pages during that period.

    Anyway, good job.

If you build quality links to the site and update your content regularly then with your keyword rich domain, you should soon be near the top of page one and making much more money than you currently are.

No, Google Dance does not happen anymore as stated by Matt Cutt's HERE.

G has made changes to their indexing algorithm and now things converge more quickly so it is hard to have G dance again.

But, it is the Quality Deserve Freshness (QDF) factor which pushes the fresh pages to the top of the SERPs for some time and then gradually that page moves back to its deserved position based on its PR and other 200 factors.

QDF is an important factor especially for News Sites where you get breaking news and it is important that these pages show up instantly in SERPs so G algo does exactly that.

thanks for clear up. so does that mean a website has a time frame to do hardcore seo to stay at the top in a short time frame? eg 2 weeks?

          Yes, Exactly.

But, bear in mind that you don't overdo things like link building or keyword spamming in your hardcore SEO practice

Actually, time is the key here.

This delay is by design in SE algorithm and one has to bear with it.

Meanwhile, one can focus on developing Good Content and Link Building at natural pace.

But, there are few things like article writing, bookmarking, forum postings can help you to sustain your QDF position for longer but eventually you have to come back to the deserved position (from SE perspective) and then make way up or down in SERPs depending on your SEO campaign.

Well done Michael. Are you charting results from "the web" or from "pages from the UK"? Either way, imagine if you can do this with multiple pages. You'll eat traffic by the case load.

was sitting at position 3 in google.co.uk for a while but now I'm back at number 1 for "for the web" and UK searches. Nearly been 2 months since I started this thread so I would say its taken about a months work to get it to number 1.

no no kevin. There was a lot of backlinking involved. Probably 100 in total.

Yes its true that if you have a new site, it might pop to first page but its your job to keep it there. I don't think I'd be number 1 without the backlinks.
