Hi,

I am driving traffic from Google Display Network. Currently i am targeting using "Keywords" in Google Content Content Network. Do i need to target "Placements" also? does it really necessary. As i heard targeting placements require higher bids in order compete with other competitors.

Please suggest me.

Currently i have about 300 keywords per ad group. I am only targeting targeted keywords to my campaign.

Pls let me know your thoughts.

  • If you target using keywords, then your Placements are set to "Automatic"...in other words, your opting to show your Ads next to content that matches what you're advertising, regardless of what websites (Placements) they're on.

    That's probably the most efficient way to start...over time, you'll identify which Placements generate the most revenue for you and you can move those to a seperate Campaign with "Managed Placements" only where you'll have more control over what you bid on specific websites.

    I can’t comment on the placement network but its sounds like you have way to many keywords in your account. Your keywords and adgroups should be very targeted. You shouldn’t have any keywords in there that are unrelated to each other or your ads. Really you should just have keywords and their variants and I doubt there are 300 variants for any keyword.

    • Agree, Google has stated that it can only consider about 50 keywords when determining the 'keyword theme' (how contextual targeting is determined) on the Display Network, so you probably want to reconfigure your Ad Groups to have less keywords that are more closely grouped.
