Adsense on New Sites: To Use or not to Use?

Hi folks-
I'm new here to WF and have heard so much about you folks. I've also bought from many of you, so there I'm an instant customer so please be kind and don't flame me I'm still a newbie .
I hear so much about whether you should use Adsense or not when starting a new site, many people say to wait until the domain is aged at least 6 months but is there really a penalty or something bad if you do put Adsense on a new site domain?

  • I would setup Adsense as soon as you can. A site with traffic and no ads is just wasted opportunity in my opinion. Plus google take some time to grant you an adsense account and check out your site.

      This is how I usually set up a new adsense sites to ensure that I'm not getting smart priced. This is just how I do it, and other's may have different ways but this works well for me.

      Firstly it's not about age, but about traffic and the type of traffic that your site gets.

      For a brand new site, I don't add any monetization at all - none - not even a tiny affiliate link in the corner. This helps me not to get sandboxed.

      I usually write about two or three posts per week (since most of my new sites are blogs) until I have around 10 to 12 posts and then probably around one new posts per week after that.

      I write a few articles targeting my high CPC posts. (Check google adwords tool to find out which keywords are best to target).

      I put either analytics or statcounter on the blog to track keywords and visits so I know where my traffic is coming from and so I can target keywords that I haven't thought of.

      I also spend a bit of time building backlinks to the site so it will rank well.

      Once I have around 100 visitors per day AND the majority of that traffic is search engine traffic THEN I'll add Adsense.

      This has worked well for me.

      I don't bother adding adsense before this mainly because you are not going to earn much anyway if you have less traffic than this so it's not worth risking your adsense account (getting it smart priced) until you have the traffic (and search engine traffic at that - not social traffic).

    • Agree. The sooner you set up an account from Adsense the sooner you will be able to put Adsense on your site. I think It takes up to a week or less.

  • You should wait until the site is getting steady search traffic for your target keywords. This might be very quickly or it might take 6 months or longer. Steady traffic might mean 10 visitors a day for some high paying long tails or it might mean 1000 a day for more popular terms.

    There is some evidence that suggests putting Adsense or some other types of advertising on a brand new site will cause it not to place as well in search results in some niches. Since nobody outside of Google knows this for sure it's speculation based on observations. My own observation is that there seems to be something to this but it isn't consistently applied.

    Another problem with putting Adsense on early is that Google's algorithms will probably flag your site as a potential MFA (made for Adsense) site. This will mean that your payouts will be smaller and your site will get lower quality ads. It also may mean getting a visual inspection from the Adsense team and, if you're using low quality content or the like, it may cause you problems.
  • You should not put it on straight away while it is tempting so you can start turning a profit rather than losing money but in the longer run you will make more money and earn more for each click on the ads that you are displaying if you wait a while (6months). This does not mean you do not nothing on your site for 6 months, it means you develop a history in the search engines and improve your rankings so when you do put ads on, you will get the best value for clicks.

  • Actually, it does not really matter if you will put ad immediately for new sites or not. What matter most is that you'll have quality visitors that will click them. In my blogs, I wait until my blog reach 500 visitors a day then that's the only time I am going to insert my ads.

  • Often when I buy a new domain I let it "age" for a month or two with a plain index page (Google always seems to find them in a week or so) and then I start adding content and building links.

    I haven't seen much of a difference adding Adsense straight away or waiting until the site starts getting consistent traffic for a few keywords. I guess it all depends on how you promote the site - if you're just using search traffic it might be worth waiting.
  • Adsense isn't really worth the money but there is no harm putting it on your new website. You may not make much (if any) money from it but hey

    • It depends on the niche. But if you are submitting articles with anchored backlinks to your site it usually takes me around three to four weeks to get 100 visitors a day consistently and improve my ranking in Google enough to get search visitors.

      Although I have had some that have taken months, and some that have taken days - but around a month is usually the case for the sites I build.

      Then I move onto the next site - rinse and repeat as they say.
  • I would not recommend putting it on new sites until they are getting targeted traffic. Think about it, by doing this you may earn a very small amount of money from occasional visitors but you are better served by getting your site indexed and receiving a stream of traffic organically before adding any monetization. Just let your site age a little first.
  • I feel if you were building a blog or website you should decide what you are trying to create-A blog just for bucks or a longer term situation on a niche you like to write about. If you want dollars put Adsense on straight away as I have found doing this after a few months has upset some of my followers-if Adsense is there from the start they know what style of blog or site it is-if you suddenly put heaps of ads on you will lose followers-This is only my opinion,and to be honest for me it is peanuts and it takes people away from my website-however a lot of people do well with Adsense as that is what there site is all geared up for.Put your toe in the water gently.
