How many anchor texts?

I'm building links for my websites and I wonder how many different anchor texts should I use? I know the more, the better, but will I be safe if I use e.g. my main keyword in 1 out of every 5 links that I build?

    I use a 70/30 split, the 30 being my keyword i'm looking to rank for and the rest being anchor text such as

    Brand name
    Url name
    Domain
    Click here
    Look at this
    Wow
    etc...

    Had no problems ranking sites using this amount of anchor text variations.

      I second this. Keep your keywords in variation. You can use related search terms to your keyword too. Ubersuggest is a great tool. You can try Mergewords if you want to mix and match.

    For your first month use only 10% of the main keyword from your list.

    For my anchor text variation, I use Related Keywords, LSI Keywords, Synonyms, Brand Name, URLs, and Generics.

    The second month boost my main keyword up to 20%. But this also depends how many backlinks your trying to build a month.

    20% main kw's

    40% use this tools to generate related and lsi anchor text Latent Semantic Indexing and Keyword suggestion tool — Google suggest scraper — Übersuggest

    I personally wouldn't stress too much about exact percentages. (You'll drive yourself nuts.)

    I just aim for under half of the links I create being pure anchor text.

    I usually use with the rate 30-70. Diversity with main kw, generic, URLs, synonym and brand... with 30% for main kw and 70% for the rest.

    You should target 7 keywords.

    Your main keyword, 3 secondary keywords, 1 raw URL, two relevant market keywords.

    With all the updates and algorithmic changes, it is crystal clear that targeting the same anchor texts will surely penalize your website. Your link profile should look natural.

    Build links with different combination of keywords including the brand terms. Try to use similar keywords rather than focusing on just the Exact match.
