First off I'm very grateful for what I learned on this site. I've been able to bring my website from page 3 all the way up to page 1 position 1 on google for a local cleaning service in Anchorage Alaska. I need to know how to stay at the top. I have done article marketing blog commenting forum posting as well as keyword optimized my homepage. it took a while but I'm at the top. at this point I'm kind of afraid to do anything because I don't want my rankings to be negatively affected. what are some solid bulletproof ways to maintain my position?

well for once, if you have reached the top for your main keywords and/or a position you are happy with, like you said is best to slow down a bit (maybe not completely stop but rather slow down).

I should also say that I haven't done Link building in about 7 months. for some reason my site is kept jumpin up on the search engines until about 2 months ago where it hit position 1.

  • jGalves,

I would say do what you have been doing but just not at the same pace. I would continue to look for backlinking opportunities and continue to add content on a consistent basis. If you are adding to your site just continue to optimize pages in the same way and don’t do anything foolish.

Maybe you can find more ideas here,

I would say that keep creating content on your site, this way you would be able to maintain ranking, there is no doubt to it.

Apart from this, as your site is on first position then you must be getting some visitors, these visitors are also helpful to keep your site active.

Maybe keep adding a new blog post/article a week and some backlinks (focus on quality and not on quantity). Just keep your site going - how much you need to do depends on how competitive your market is - 1 new post every few weeks and a handful of backlinks may be enough

Keep updating your sites and engaging your customers would be the best way. Also focus on quality backlinks.

I think this is the key, Google is looking to see evidence that site visitors are engaged. If they see the bounce rate go down, the site will tend to cement it's position at #1.

Agree with what has been in terms of speed at which you might want or need to build links. Given that your business has such a geographic focus are you ranking on the local places seven pack in your area?

If anything, it might be worth pursuing that over the next couple of months.

You need to slow a little now, but don't stop properly. Add some relevant backlinks, and maybe you will get also other keywords on top, and your keyword will stay forever on 1 position.

That's cool. If you are at #1, it will be difficult for you now to maintain that position. Try to do some smart SEO now so that you can hold onto that #1 position.
