SEO value of hosted blog

Hey everyone. quick question: I'm about to build an optimized blog and i've been out of the game for a minute. last i checked, if i host the blog on wordpress so my blog is at blog.mydomain.com i don't get the SEO value i would if i hosted it on my domain, mydomain.com/blog.

anyone have thoughts on that or just know the answer outright? thanks!

Yes, you can use any of these too

blog.yourdomain.com
yourdomain.com/blog

but I would say that yourdomain.com/blog is more effective than other, because it gets benefit from home page too, while blog.yourdomain.com is treated as separate domain..
