High rankings and persuasive copy can't be done? Bull! Get the The Manual on how to optimize

BTW, there's nothing to download, i just wanted to demonstrate something.

The above three lines of text are basically how (in my eyes) a good title tag and meta-description should be structured with both, SEO and CTR in mind.

Let's for this example assume that your keyword is "the manual".

Use the full 65 characters to engage *human readers* and to tell exactly what they can expect to find on the page. Using the available space to the fullest also maximizes the "clickable area" - that's another little advantage.

Apply your favourite headline-formula to the title-tag.. in the example above, i used:

- what to get (the manual)
- scarcity (free today)
- call to action (download now)

They say the eact keyword *should* come first in the title and that's correct, but IMHO it's also OK to place it somewhere in the middle, like "5 Reasons why THE MANUAL is total Bullshit, discover the truth". You know.. you won't probably outrank the first example with this approach, but the enhanced CTR will make up for it.

Let's move on to the meta-description.

The exact keyword should appear somewhere IN THE MIDDLE of the description. Why? Simply because Google BOLDS it and it will stand out more if it's placed in the middle of the text. Even if bolded, i found it kinda gets lost if placed at the very beginning or the very end of the description.

As for the copy of the description itself.. I simply address a problem (high rankings and persuasive copy can't be done), deliver the solution (the manual) and finish with some kind of "semi" call to action (no opt in required) that SUPPORTS the original CTA in the title (download now).

That's basically all i do in order to combine CTR and SEO and it works really well for me.

PRO TIP: spice up your SERP listing with Google Authorship Markup to increase the CTR even more. Read more: Authorship ? Inside Search ? Google
