hi, i think siloing gives some advantage in the serps, does everyone agree this is the case today ?
if using wordpress, what is the best / easiest way of doing this ?

how does a silo differ from just categories ?
(with posts and no tags interlinking different categories ?)

Siloing is site structure/architecture and it takes planning, you don't just put a site together throw backlinks at it and away you go.

Do a search here on WF on (siloing, silo, silo structure) you'll find all the info you need.

You're comparing the importance of on-page with off-page SEO and assuming they're mutually exclusive. They're not. I bet you I can rank for more keywords with a silo site than you can without a silo site if the backlink profile is equivalent.

However you're going to build a silo website not something that will convert traffic into leads/customers, basically a website made for search engines, good luck with making money with that.

Do more offpage optimization because that's the most important...

But since you're promoting silo services I better shut up and say no more haha.
It's not just for search engines though. It's also a logical way of laying out your website structure so it's easier for users to browse through the website and find related articles to the one they're reading about at the moment.

How effectively you convert traffic into leads is to do with the actual content and not really to do with the way the site is laid out.

If you look at all the biggest news sites, you'll see they're split into related clusters or silos.

Promoting my (currently not available) silo sites doesn't make my arguments any less valid. Does the link in your signature make your SEO posts any less valid?

      That's just silly nonsense.

Your acting like a silo structure will prevent you from making a sale. You might want to Google - Copywriting.

Silo structure is good for on-site SEO because it helps the spiders find and index all of the relevant content keywords etc.

So the best thing to do is combine Silo structuring and of course.. good on page SEO,, along with a good link building strategy.

That blueprint when done correctly, will maximize your rankings. There is a WORDPRESS plug-in that I use for this called SILO BOT.

It works well and saves time because once you set it up it links your pages & posts in a silo structure automatically.

I think you have the whole think a bit confused here. Siloing is actually a great way to improve user experience as well. By interlinking tightly related content you are actually helping the user.

Say you have a site about pets (products, tips, etc). If I come to your site looking for "how to stop my dog from barking so much", don't you think links to other dog behavior related posts within that original post would actually be more helpful to me than links to pet stuff in general?...

I personally think siloing is one of those few things that is both good for search engines and visitors.
So, I am more likely to like your site and stay on it longer if

    Siloing helps.

It's just setting up the structure of your site correctly. It's part of a holistic SEO strategy.

SILO structure is a solid foundation for any website. You will be hard-pressed to find a better site structure that is both easier to use for your visitors and also ranks as highly in the search engines.

Also, to the people arguing about links vs silo structure: what the hell are you talking about? On-page SEO and site structure are almost completely unrelated to link building. Doing a SILO structure does not prevent you from building links.
