Do you have an SEO system to follow?

Specifically I mean a system for link-building, since most people get the gist of on-page optimization pretty well (unique content, keyword in h1 tags, blah blah blah).

I recently received another spam offering for SEO services through the contact form on one of my websites.

Usually, these get deleted instantly. But this particular message actually caught my eye because it sent me a nifty list of the exact link-building tactics that they offer for customers.

They sent me this list:

Package For 15 Keywords:

1. Keywords Analysis & Research
2. 200 Manually Directory Submissions
3. 90 Article Submissions (1 Articles Submit in 30 Top Directories)
4. 10 Press Release Distributions (1 Press Release submit in 10 Sites)
5. 5 Web2.0/Blog postings(Using pre-written articles)
6. 30 Social Bookmarking Submissions
7. 5 Forum postings
8. 3 Unique Article writing (400+ words)
9. 1 Press Release writing (350+ words)
10. Keywords Mapping
11. New pages suggestions
12. Keywords research
13. Competitor Analysis
14. Title Tag changes suggestions
15. Meta tags changes suggestions
16. Alt tag changes suggestions
17. HTML Site Map
18. XML site map setup
19. Anchor text optimization
20. Google webmaster setup
21. Google analytics setup
22. Weekly Work Report
23. Monthly Ranking Report
24. Monthly Full Detailed SEO Work Report in Excel

Note: We send weekly report to each of our clients so that they can have regular updates on their website. Also, this shows that we work regularly on the website in a very elegant way.
This got me thinking... that even though I don't plan on hiring these particular guys, I should probably come up with a systematized SEO plan of my own.

I already do good on-page optimization on all of my sites. But as far as link-building goes, most of my efforts thus far have been more like "dabbling" in link building: a few directory submissions here, some social media stuff there, etc.

Do you have an SEO system that you follow for every website you build? I'm curious to hear it, as I'm wanting to start building my own system that I can follow for every website I create in the future.

yes and no, for clients i apply the "tested tried and true"

and for "experiements" well i just go with it.

but really, those types of "seo offers" aren't bad to base a seo strategy or more "plan of attack".

we can say that the reason they are so transparent, is for two reasons:
    1. some ppl don't understand half of that stuff and it just looks "good"
    2. they are showing you what they're doing, that you literally almost can't
2a. that's they're advertising model basically, "see all the stuff we're doing, this is it"

it's kinda like copy us if you like, but you'll take forever doing it.

The number of grammar mistakes on that list of services would make me extremely cautious of their work quality.

You should have a plan for your SEO. What you want to achieve and how you will achieve it. Then check-in regularly and see what is working and how you can improve.

well yea, we all know not to get seo from emerging/3rd world countries...

if it's an asian seo, run away!
if it's an indian seo, run away!

    all they do is
    1. promise page 1 rankings
    2. spam until rankings move
    3. if rankings move in your favor, then they have a customer
3a. if rankings dip, they spam more and call it a google dance

(i'm gonna use the "i'm asian myself" clause, so i don't get in trouble for being racist!)

I'm sure some will listen Lanx, but paying peanuts ($10-$20) is highly irresistible for a bunch of us..but for SEO! Oh baby..some need to get a stung first to learn I guess. Going this road bites big time..oh yeah!

Writing by experience ah Lanx Nicely thought..not saying that's correct, but neither incorrect Pretty cool, surely not east dow as we may both agree.

Not that terribly really if they also had a private network to pass some real juice, and personally I would go a bit slower on the web directory submissions and use a few less article directories.

the transparent option is great for offline, here i'll even give a tip
i layout my "here's what i'm gonna do"
i just takeout one sheet and show them, 49 items (somewhere i saw always use an odd number for a list... whatever)

i black marker like 30 of them, like a fbi document, of course the guy goes "what's with this?"

i say oh, that's our proprietary system, when you sign up i'll fax you over an "unblocked" copy of course, but this is our "special" and tested system for rankings... blah blah blah.

and guess what... i learned this trick... shopping for a wedding dj/mc! well not the blackout part, that's my own "twist" on it, the dj/mc just handed me the list of "stuff" and activities that they'll do, but they want the list back at the end of the consultation. (i ended up hiring them anyway)

and i thought about this in this way.

i have absolutely no idea how or what a dj or mc does, i just know we wanted one for our wedding, we let them take care of the introductions, announcements all that, and it was great!, they had an entire schedule that was planned (their secret sauce) and i could never come up with it, cuz i'm not in the industry and i don't know the first thing about being a dj/mc.

now replace dj/mc with seo, and that's what your client is thinking.

That one i think they uses for standart seo for all websites. But all websites have their needs, so they are doing this only to rank your website slower possible, and working more month on it, so this means less effort, more money.

If there is someone who's bs then it's you, let's take this list:

    10. Keywords Mapping - great concept
    11. New pages suggestions - great way to increase relevancy
    12. Keywords research - always necessary
    13. Competitor Analysis - connects to kw research
    14. Title Tag changes suggestions - essential
    15. Meta tags changes suggestions - good to increase CTR in the SERPS
    16. Alt tag changes suggestions - nice for lsi kw's
    17. HTML Site Map - I never do this myself tbh
    18. XML site map setup - neither do I do this, maybe cause I build small sites
    19. Anchor text optimization - internal linking I assume?
    20. Google webmaster setup - why not
    21. Google analytics setup - good for clients to track progress

How many people on this forum do you think will do these above things?

Well I know from my own last 2000 clients that only about half are doing it and perhaps only 20% does it properly.

Heck, even about 25% of my clients doesn't even put their keyword in the title, let alone the rest of that list. So if a company does this in a proper way then it can be it's weight worth in gold cause otherwise it would never happen. Now I'm obvious not sure how properly an India company would do it, when I do this for my site I easily spend a couple hours to do it properly.

Great strategy uhu? Critisizing others while you have no clue yourself, also it's very clear from your posts that you haven't worked with any clients so far or you wouldn't have made such posts.

What do you mean? Are you referring to content?

The report is sent out after you sign-up to my list. It's 16 pages. I do need to add more content but I've been rushed off my feet with local SEO. I created the blog about a month ago (bought the domain a while back but only got round to it now).

There's more information on my FB fan page. All free of course.

    My plan:

    Build a list
Get my site and blog more in sync (I won't try to explain that here)
    Build a list
Continue to make improvements to my site
    Build a list
    Keep writing on my blog
    Build a list
    And
    Build a list

Everything else will take care of itself.

If you can find a local company with a building and staff who do SEO full time this is the best option has you know they are obviously doing good work with other clients to still be in business

I always make plans while starting SEO for my websites. The real problem is keep the list up. As per the list the SEO company sent you, it is good to know what they are doing to improve the ranking of our websites. If anything fishy going on, we can identify quickly.
