I would not recommend this. Simple click services are bound to be either fake or so over used that the value of the link pack has been garnished and even penalized.

Article submissions will help a little. Guest posts will help a lot, but this might not be a possibility for some niches. If you really want quality links, buy some domains that have high PR if you have the budget.

It can get fairly complicated (and a little expensive if you're on a tight budget) but a lot of people are doing this now. Almost like setting up their own mini blog network.

submit to directories
make content and distribute it in the form of pr releases and guest posts
comment on blogs with links back to your site
social media

all these are ways to get backlinks.

For quality backlinks I recommend guest posting on quality blogs. Automated backlinks (article submission, social bookmarks, blog spamming, mass directory submission...) are not quality links and those kinds of links won't do a lot for your Google rankings, although they still work for Yahoo & Bing.

Build links from several high authority sites like article directories, blog posts, web 2.0s (both dofollow and nofollow), press release, wiki, social bookmark, HPBL, video and document sharing, etc. Getting links from authority websites allows Google to look at your site with high value and index those links, as well as enables your site to gain authority.

Relevancy is the major factor which you need to take care of when building links to your site.

Also build backlinks to your site in such a way, so that it does not look artificial. While building links for different sites, I have experienced that website with natural backlink profile would always get the priority on Google SERP. And you should always remember this while managing your link building campaign.

Buy an aged domain from Digital Forums
Put up WordPress on it
Convert it into a niche site
Write a small article and insert you link in there.

This way you get quality high PR links with low OBL and very high relevancy

Just make sure you know all aspects on how to set up a private blog network (different IPs)

the best of the best links you will ever get are from high PR domains...buy the domains, set them up, send links to your site...pretty simple...tons more detail that goes into it to do it right, but that it literally how I rank my sites super fast and have never been Google slapped...pre or post google animal update...

also, be very cautions getting links from other people...just make sure you know what you are getting before you do it...i dont do it at all, but thats not to say you shouldnt do it...

Articles directories are only effective to deoptimize your main anchor text...they wont do anything for you in terms of ranking your site...Google caught on to that long ago...

I would recommend blog commenting to get good quality backlinks for your site. It is a process through which you can easily get high PR backlinks for your site. You don't have to bother for buying high PR domains. But while commenting in a blog, you should keep some things in mind.
*Choose blogs which are updated regularly,
*Choose moderated blogs,
*Post thoughtful comment.

No follow comment links are useless...Google has said this specifically...going around blog commenting will not make your site rank any higher...it's basically a waste in terms of SEO...

I would have to disagree on that. Nofollows links still count and give you benefits in rankings. People might argue about that but that's just my opinion. It's just what I heard, that Google and Matt Cutts say a lot of things that are not necessarily true because they want to make you think that ranking in Google is hard.

When I create links to my sites I don't look which ones are dofollows and which ones are nofollows, I just makes links and my sites end up ranking anyways.

Problem is that you need both do and no folllows. All do follows looks un-natural so having a mix of both is preferred.

yep...which happens automatically for me...i just dont know ahead of time which and are and arent prior to senuke building them...which doesnt matter really...

1. Create quality content;
2. Submit your blog to directories related;
3. Submit new content to the blog Social bookmarks;
4. Comment on blogs, websites and related forums;
5. Get links to the various pages of the blog / site.

Interesting thing about these back link threads is that what one says works, the other say does not. Article works for some, it is useless for others, some are still swearing by directories others nix it completely. For some automated tools work while others have given up on them completely.

Is there any consensus for what works and what does not?

yes...high PR networks...no doubt that is the strongest and fastest way to rank a site on the first page of google...people can demy if they want, but the proof is in the puddin'
