Which is more search engine optimized for the targeted keywords?

Targeted_keywords.sitename(not included keyword).com

or

www .sitename(not included keyword).com/targeted_keywords

I'm assuming that you have other content on the main domain, so my suggestion would be to keep with the

sitename.com/keyword.

Whatever reputation the site hos for other keywords will be of some help, as opposed to keyword.sitename.com which is a different domain as far as the SE ranking.
