Would This Explain Why Most of My Traffic is Coming From Canada?

For a couple of weeks now, I've been wondering why most of my traffic to one of my sites has been coming from Canada. Well, just found out that all of CrocWeb's datacentres are located in Canada.

Would this explain it? Would changing to a host with datacentres located in the USA result in US traffic?

    Yep, same as when you get many links from .ca domains then you also start to rank better in Canada.

    • Damn, been losing out on quite a bit of potential income then, especially as my conversion rate for Amazon Ca has always been pathetic. Looks as if changing hosts will be the first thing I do tomorrow.

      Datacenter location I don't think should play a big role? I host all of my ".ca" sites on US data centers and never any problem getting Canadian traffic so I can't see that it should matter all that much the other way around?

      Where is the traffic coming from OP?

  • Yes, Google looks at the location or the IP of the web server and would think that your site is valuable to the users for that certain location. But they will not only return the search result to that specific location, but they will also look at the TLD. In addition, with the GeoTargeting feature in the Webmaster Tools, you can specify which geographic location you are targeting regardless of the host location.
