It's not uncommon to drop off the face of the earth for awhile and bounce back even stronger. As far as the additional links, are there a ton of them? (In other words, did someone blast your site with a bunch of junky links?)

From what I can tell about 1300 or more. On ahrefs it a lot of links but on Google webmasters there is only 15 kind of weird. Crazy someone would do this.

Your still ranking for "san diego elite fitness." Anyhow, how can you expect to rank for much more than that if you have zero content? Your gonna need more then links...like content!

Your website doesn't seem penalized just yet.

True but some of the ones on page 1 have about the same content and less links for keywords san diego personal trainer, san diego personal training. Something still off if content is one there still something.

That will be common on a competitive niche. It happened to one of my clients and I went ballistic over it, client trusted, stayed, I kept building links as usual and no matter how many links get thrown one of my favorite clients also keeps his #1 Google positions for profitable keywords. Keep building authority, the competitor will either get tired once he/she can see your client is at the top or you'll have built enough site authority that getting penalized will be difficult. People will play foul ball on you often, especially with top rankings sooner or later in competitive niches, tell your client to stay put for a while longer and increase his rankings..uphill battle if you've someone doing bad links on you..just depends mostly on your clients understanding. GL there

    Here is what I see...

Your content is not well optimized for search engines and now Google is lowering your status because of it. Your content doesn’t really fit the page title well either. Sure you repeated words from your page title but where are the words supporting your main keywords (synonyms). Also, eliminate wordiness to group keywords closer together in your body paragraphs.

You also have the same content on two different pages, obesity in america is on the home page and another page, not good.

Your links must be even weaker cause only two pages have PR zero. I’t doesn’t mean the page is PR0, could be higher. However, since other pages have PR n/a, then its a good sign you have low quality links. A powerful link will bleed PR to all your “few” pages. People say PR doesn’t matter, I say it does, but only in combination with great Internet optimized content.

Advice...improve content drastically and get better quality links. Just one great link can do wonders, but you’ll need better content.

Also, don’t focus on your competition. If you don’t understand why your site is not ranking well then you shouldn’t assume why the competition is.

I’ve relied on content for the last 10 years to make huge sums of money, not links. Take it from me (or not), your content is weak and website thin...no disrespect.

Thanks for the input. I guess I have to change the content to relate more to the keywords. But, it is hard to ignore competition for the same key word on page 1 with less content and way less backlinks that I have checked on different sites. Still seems there has to be something that google is looking for which this site does not have. Maybe it is the content but damn some of these sites have way less content and weak links and rank high just doesnt make sense.

I have one website which has no content on the homepage but has keywords in the navigation links. The site ranks very well for the niche of the site. Only because I have strong anchor text backlinks with the words I want to rank for.

You don’t even need “strong” links, but if there not strong, you’ll need more of the same anchor text links. I find it more effective to build a keyword rich quality page and point just one or two very strong links to the page. This way you’ll rank for more keywords and leak pagerank to other pages.

Without a doubt, my websites that have high quality content on the homepage, plus links, gets far better rankings in SERP’s and traffic.

I agree never made it to #1 but made it to first page before. I would assume that having over 1000+ links out of nowhere is not normal somebody else added these links.

If the site is new I'd give it a couple of weeks to see if it recoups the rankings - new sites sometimes do that... rollercoaster ride in rankings until they settle down.

Why Your Site Dropped in Google Ranking

When your website rankings suddenly drop it can be frustrating. Your website ranking may drop for many different reasons. Start with this list of common causes.

    1. Changes with the Search Engine Ranking Algorithm: Search engines are continuously changing the ways they use to rank websites in order to improve the quality.

    2. Loss of PageRank/Link Popularity: Links to your site that had been providing a large amount of pagerank to your site have been removed.

    3. Cinderella Story/ "Honeymoon" Effect: If your site is less than six months old, you may have been getting a temporary increase in your rankings from Google to help your site be found by searchers.

    4. Penalty: The search engines are becoming more strict about violating the rules of their guidelines and are quick to punish violators. Some of the most common causes of penalties include:

    Hidden Text
    Text Link Ads
    Thin Content
    Multiple Domain Names
    Domain Farms
Linking to penalized, or so-called "bad neighborhood" sites
    Excessive Link Exchanges

    5. Canonicalization Problems: This one stands out because without changing anything on your site, you can fall victim to this problem in Google.

    6. Broken links: This can be a cause if one or more of your internal pages is critical to your site's success.

    7. Server Problems: If Google has difficulty accessing your site, if it's slow to respond or responds with an error, it can lead to this situation.

    8. Duplicate Content: Prevent the same content from being available through more than one URL on your website or anyone else's.

You Should keep your pages fresh and new, useful, original content. Website that republish content from other sites are likely to have their rankings drop significantly.
    I hope this helps you.

There is only one solution is keep working in the same ration, progressively as well, it would help.

What happens is we lose our heart and we left working which is not good, sometimes Google checks your dedication.

Well I have gone to different big metropolitan areas of the US for similiar website and keywords. I have checked their inbound outbound links, off page on page seo, and a few other things. The only thing that I can really pinpoint is domain age. Sometimes I wonder if google has different Algorithm
    for certain categories.

Taking a deeper look at your site and I found that: There are several deleted links. Deleted links would cause negative link velocity and could decrease site rankings. And also, I noticed that there are pages that contain similar content. These are causing duplicate content issues and probably causing the site not to rank well.

Thanks for taking a look and your advice.Which links are you referring to on page or inbound. Also, I understand duplicate content but the content on front page is just a sample of full article on blog part. I see this on many sites that are ranking well. I also have seen it on many 1st page websites in different large metropolitan area in the U.S.
