Hey,

I own a website and have the .co.uk version and the .com has been offered to me for $3,500.

It has a pr of 0 but the domain was first registered in 1995.

No way I am paying that much for pr 0 but what do you guys think such a domain could be worth?

  • If the .com has quality backlinks, you can negotiate with the owner to reduce the price.
  • If that domain has more popularity, reputation and driving more visitors then you can consider buying. If not it is too much to buy that. Negotiate with the domain owner.

    • $3,500 for .com site is much higher. Although its a old site. You can negotiate with the owner for price reduction.
  • It depends if you want to rank in Google US. If you're gunning 100% in Google UK, then the .com isn't going to do much for you.
  • You are the best person to determine the value based on what you are already earning from the .co.uk.

If you're making money, it may have more value in terms of selling your business in future than it has as an SEO asset.

It would need to be a killer domain to be worth 3.5. If the owner has contacted you out of the blue, they will have also contacted the owner of the .net etc. and if it's a keyword, probably any business related to it. It's also unlikely that they would be expecting to get what they ask for straight up.

You can always make a low ball counter offer and see if they bite.
  • Depends on the name. If people go the .com naturally and you are loosing some traffic, then probably it's wise to buy this domain. However, if there is no demand or traffic for this domain and the name doesn't make any sense then $3,500 is way too high.
