Banned By Google AdSense

I received another sad email from a person who got the "dreaded letter" from Google. Their AdSense account had been terminated! To add insult to injury, according to Google's terms of service, any money owed at that point will NOT be paid; it is returned to the advertisers.

Don't let it happen to you!

Clicking your own links is not the only way to get banned. For example, I never tell or show friends or relatives my sites. Call me paranoid, but Google's reach is so broad that I am afraid they could make the connection if those friends began clicking my ads. It makes sense to me that Google may have ways of "knowing" about my friend's connection with me that I had not thought of. Who knows...but I am not taking any chances!

If you violate "minor" rules, they may be nice and just warn you. Or they will just hit the ban button depending I think on the mood of the reviewer at the time and how prevalent your "minor" mistakes were. Make sure you read the rules and follow the Adsense terms of service!

Another person asked me if the way they used pictures near their ads violated rules. If it was obvious to me it was a rules violation; imagine what the Google reviewer would think!

One more example:

A person contacted me about their site which was doing poorly with respect to traffic. I took one look and told the owner that the varied content they threw up would be seen by the search engines as "spam". Google is very clear; sites with no real intent of providing a quality experience for visitors are not welcome in the AdSense program. Several weeks later, the person wrote back; they had received "the letter". I don't know if what I saw is what got them banned or not; but it sure did not help.

Even though we do create sites with the intent of earning AdSense income, everyone must remember that quality content is a vital component of AdSense Success.

...and follow those AdSense rules!

  • One fear I have is that webmasters of competitive sites might start clicking your ads at a excessive rate to make google think your abusing your account and get you banned. Has that ever happened before?

    • Sure, of course that happens. Google knows it happens. I for one believe Google has very good controls for protecting against such things.

However, no system is perfect. I am sure there have been some innocent accounts banned at times.
  • G has been very strict lately as I have read a number of accounts got the red flag last month. It is better to start working on various other options available in PPC market.
  • I am wondering what you mean by "varied content". Is it wrong to have many subjects on one website? Is that what you mean? I am wanting to start a blog and was wondering if I need to stick to one subject.
    Thanks!

    • Well, "varied content" won't get you banned. But a new site needs to be very focused in the begining. For example, you'd not want a new site with pages about dogs, airplanes, gardeing, etc.

Keep the new site very focused on a small niche. Either know it will forever be in that small niche or leave yourself an opening to expand it bit by bit further out of the niche as it gets more respect from Google.

  • I got banned from Google Adsense, because some idiot from China decided to spam click my links.

I even reported proof of this to Google, but they shoved me away like I was nothing.

    • Even that has happened to me. But is there anyway to prevent this. How can someone else just excessively click on my ad links and spam the account. Can someone suggest something here to avoid this. As i think this is a common issue which most of us might be facing.

    • This is very bad. Google must do something to protect us from this kind of spammers. We are the victim of spam and yet we suffer the most. Our adsense income that is.
  • I think asrep has a fraud protection module, although its not foolproof
  • yeah google is very strict at clicking your own ads

    • Why put yourself under the shadow of a giant after getting rid of your boss? Just like when doing a 9-5 day job for your boss at the bad ecomony - always under pressure from somebody, in this case the internet giant.

      Just my 2 cents..

  • clicking your own ads many times is one of the factors why you got banned in adsense..

    • Clicking competitor's ads is of course a common happening in high traffic keyword areas. But Google of course knows about this too. It is not as easy as you think to go and deliberately get another site banned by doing this.

Can it happen? Sure. No system is perfect; but I think everyone would be surprised how often people try it and how few times Google falls for it.
  • Invalid clicking is a serious offence and just one occurence can get you banned. Therefore for safety's sake, you should not let your friends or relatives know the urls of your websites. In my case, I was banned because I had a series of minor offences in a row.

  • hi... iam a beginner in internet business BUT....... i have twice banned by google adsense. Its very expensive experience to learn about adsense.
For the first time i do click fraud on my web, i did it in several city in my city. I think google will not find it, but i was wrong.
In the second time, i do traffic exchange program to raise up my traffic and my impression adsense otomatically. And google warn me and baned me 3 month ago.
And now i build new web and do SEO to get my unique traffic. Wish me luck
  • What can i say, too many people/publishes getting banned, some did something wrong others didn't a do squat and still get banned. Need to to be careful but you can only do so much.....
  • I got banned because I found some sites were scraping my articles, and when they wouldn't fix them (links, etc.), I reported them and got them de-indexed.

Turns out, I pissed off some syndicate that was throwing up junk sites as fast as they could. They went to my site and junk-clicked three or four articles (the ones I reported them for).

Got the letter, showed the proof, and they just said 'even though you did nothing wrong, this account is still a risk for advertisers so you're still banned.'
  • Know what pi## me off? I reported almost one hundred sites/blogs that:

    - don't provide any content
    - place ads bellow titles
    - use sexy/pornish pictures

and just one of them got "ads disable" yet the owner keeps using adsense on another sites/blogs just as bad as the one that got smacked.

I really hat Adsense team since then. They don't act as they should and they keep banning "normal" publishers.

    It is shameful.

P.S. - I have a active adsense account for some years now and never had a problem. This is not a vengeance post.

    • I guess if you don't follow Big G's rule(TOS) for adsense then you have no one else to blame if you get warned and subsequently banned. As for Google, they look for sites that provide good user experience, and regularly updated maybe. But the point is, if you were to throw out hundreds of rubbish site then obviously you'll get banned sooner or later. Abide to Google's rules if you do not want to jeopardize your adsense income.
  • i get no clicks!!!! not from spammers also hahaha
anyways ya its really bad to get adsense banned as when you finally decide to go big on ur site
