Adsense Earnings Doubled/Tripled YOY

I was comparing my Adsense earnings data (YOY) for the months of Jan., Feb., Mar., April., & earnings have doubled/tripled.

(YOY comparison)
  • Jan. 2012-2013 = x2.70 increase
  • Feb. 2012-2013 = x3.50 increase
  • Mar. 2012-2013 = x2.50 increase
  • Apr. 2012-2013 = x1.30 increase

It's the middle of April & I'm already at higher earnings than April 2012, still have two weeks in this month.

I haven't touched my main site in probably a year other than changing Post dates to bump old evergreen post back to the top of the Index page & back when Adsense/Feedburner was working, to send out new emails from old content.

Traffic has always been very consistent & for the last 5-6 years Adsense earnings was very predictable for each month, Nov., Dec., Jan., were always highest performing months. This year (2013) has completely changed & this also includes me losing out on very good Adsense earnings from my Feedburner/Adsense emails that I was monetizing back in 2012.

I'm seeing my highest earnings months as a new average for each month so far in 2013, Feb. 2013 actually outperformed Nov. 2012 & Jan. 2013 which has never happened in my years of running Adsense, in the past Feb. always dipped in earnings like clockwork.

This is defiantly not a rant, but the only thing I see different this year compared to last year is the on-page Adsense Ads showing those big arrows next to each text Ad.

    Yukon, that is great. My AdSense is going in the opposite direction.

    How do you change post dates to bump up old posts?

      If your running a CMS (Wordpress, Blogger, etc..) go to each individual old blog post that you want to bump to the top of your Index page, then change the date to be the newest/latest date of all your blog post (ex: todays date).

      I only bump the old blog post to keep my traffic coming back to the site.

      This one site has almost 1k blog post/pages, there's no way traffic is going to look at 1k pages, no matter how interested they are in a site. I get an average of 7 page views per unique traffic, that leaves a lot of old pages I can keep bumping to the top, for a lot of my traffic they've never seen those old blog post/pages.

      Having a large site with all evergreen content/pages makes it easy for the site to look like it always has fresh content.

    Thanks! Am I correct that when you say "evergreen post", you are talking about information that doesn't change with time? The information is as good now as it was when it was written

      Yes, subjects that are never outdated, for instance:
      • Woodworking
      • Gardening
      • Cooking
      • etc...

      IMO it's easier to make long term money from those types of sites with less work, where something like a celebrity site would be non-stop work to keep up with the latest gossip, or an electronics site would have to keep up with the latest model of a product (iphone, camera, TVs, etc....), technology changes pretty quickly. Things like woodworking, gardening, & cooking will pretty much be the same 50 years from now, just like they haven't changed much in the past 50 years.

    I am wondering if you are using your own theme, or a theme from someplace else( can you mention one) and do you do your own writing, I prefer to outsource, if you outsource,can you tell me which provider you use, one can never have to many writers to work with,thanks.

      I don't remember what the theme name is, it was a free gallery type theme that I did heavy customization to a few years ago. That's sort of my point with OP, the site hasn't changed YOY, the content gets rearranged from me changing post dates to make the site look like it's constantly updated (which it isn't), but the earnings has doubled/tripled without changing any of the layout, I made less money last year with same theme/layout I have today. Earnings were good last year, but 2013 has started out with earnings that I would expect around the holiday season.

      I don't write articles or post articles on my sites, my sites are download sites, which is legal downloads that I personally create. My sites cater to both hobby & small business traffic. People in this niche have a wide range of spending habits, prices can go from a few hundred dollars as a hobby to hundreds of thousands of dollars for a small business setup, that's where the Adwords guys come in, I send them niche traffic, then get payed via Adsense.

      A lot of my traffic either starts out as a hobby, or they've worked for an offline business & figured out they can make more money doing the same work on their own (that's how I started), so they look at starting a small business. My content/downloads give them a head start, examples to work with, they create a finished product based on my files, then sell their product to their own customers. It's kind of hard to explain without giving up the niche.

      I'm not sure why that would even matter for increased earnings?
