here is another curve ball our way SEO experts.

i still don't understand why o would want to buy a domain if i don't need it for its name but for seo reasons.

let me break it down to a few questions.
1. is the sandbox mith true? and if its how long does it last?
2. let's say the sand box is true and it lasts for 6 months. then i don't understand why a 20 year old site will be any better than a 1 year old site, if they are both out of the sand box.
3. why is it better to buy a domain than just open a web 2.0 property?

i guess what i am saying is i still don't understand the SEO value of buying domains.
would appreciate any expert help.

tnx Dor

It's better to call search filter than Google sandbox!

Yes, Google filters new websites/web-blogs for appearing in search results. The probation period will be anywhere from 4 weeks to 28 weeks.

The probation period, has been made to check whether your website has minimum content or any relevant topics, which could be useful for users.

    Some points to note.....

(i)Even if your website is completely new, your website can get indexed, if you have minimum content, but the ranks wont be given.
(ii)You have to get links from relevant authoritative webmasters to gain good rankings
(iii)opt for low competition keywords, so that you can easily rank in search results.

I didn't understood the meaning of second & third point, any clarifications would be helpful.

Buying domains rather than starting out new website is a good move according to SEO way!

The benefit for a bought domain would be.....

    • May be out of Google filter time-period
    • May be having good rankings

However, you should take care of some points, before buying a domain name.
    • Check for domains link background
    • Age of domain
    • Check the traffic or any search volume
    • Use Bing & Google to search for that domain
    • For business purpose, check for trademarks etc.
    • Check if it contains content(not domain, complete website)
    • If for advertisement purpose, check if it is AdSense blocked or not!

If it meets these criteria, you can opt for buying domain, which will be having huge benefits as per SEO needs.

Or you can simply create your website from scratch!

This is not true. Google gives new content (which a new site would have) a temporary boost in the search results and then later it comes to rest at it's "rightful" or "earned" place in the SERPs. So if a new site has a drop after the initial surge it's because you haven't earned that top spot yet

Matt Cutts recently compared it to a breaking news story, right after an event there is just limited information then as each hour/day passes we have a better picture of the event and the big picture. So when your new site appears in the index Google still hasn't figured out how relevant to the search term it actually it is, give them time and you will see where you stand in comparison to the other results in the index. That's your rightful place. HTH

Why is your own domain better than a web2.0 property? Let me answer that with another question. Who do you think owns your web 2.0 site? And who else other than you will have the ability to close your web page/income down without warning?

    1) Many people believe that if you build backlinks to a new domain, which has not gained Google's trust, too quickly you will fall into what is called the sandbox/supplementary index while Google tries to figures out what to do with your site. I have seen this happen in some of my experiments. So I do believe it exists (whatever its name is).

    2) Site age and backlink profile are believed to have an effect on a domains trust with Google. Between a younger domain and the older domain, I would purchase the one that has the better backlink profile.

    3) An aged domain with a strong backlink profile will rank MUCH MUCH faster than a fresh web 2.0 with no PR and/or backlinks. Simple as that. So, if you have the money and the time to research aged domains, I strongly recommend buying an aged high PR domain.

    Good luck!

I personally saw no sandbox effect when I built a website in October.

The site gained ranking immediately and kept rising. For one week before the last PR update the site disappeared. It returned after the PR was assigned and never sank again.

Even more important than whether your site is new is whether the links to your site are from trusted domains.

    let me clarify,
i have a well aged website. i want to build links pointing at him.
i hear people say buy domains, but don't understand why buy a domain to point to my website and not just open a web 2.0 property to point to my website.

the only thing i can think of is that their are limited amounts of places to open your web 2.0 property so if i buy a domain it will help me achieve more unique domains pointing back to my website.

    anything other than that?
