I have been making a few niche sites for some long tail key words. I currently have a website that is ranked on the First page for it's keyword in google. This site can cover a broad amount of categories and many of my niche key words can be added to the site.

Here is my question? Would it be better to create a new dotcom website for my niche like www.examplelongtailkeyword.com or would it be better to add it to my existing site that is ranked well, such as, www.mygoodrankingsite.com/longtailkeyword?

Personally, I would add it to existing ranked site to avoid more work in promotion.

You will probably get a few different views on this question. But I usually try to put one niche per website. Don't worry about getting an EMD, last year google removed any advantage to having one. Instead try for a brandable domain name that you can build your niche around.

Jbyte was right I got different views. Maybe I can clarify a little. The current high ranking website has to do with women's interest. It's pretty general but does well. If I was going after the (I'll use a fake product) "the gillette pink lady's razor". I would still be building my brand for women's interest just adding a new product line. Now would I have a chance of this product page ranking higher in the existing site or with it's own dedicated site.
I also have the high ranking site in html and I want to add the new nich sites as wp, is this ok.

If the nice is well worth it, you should do both. This way, you have higher chances of getting more traffic from Google and you have also diversified your risks.

Both will work but I personally like to have everything under one domain.

Its not a good idea to create a new domain for every other keyword. Its better to have the same website as you will get benefit ( Google trusts more older sites ).

I think you better add it to your current site . As the current page will get some link juice from home page and other relevant internal pages it will have good authority and then better theme relevancy . So chances of ranking will be good . Besides that visitors of your existing pages may be interested in this product too and some of them may buy .

Well if you want to keep adding new content and have returning visitors I would use wordpress. Otherwise I'm all for HTML

First off, congrats on your first page ranking. Not many people Post-Penguin have been able to do that.

Considering you've build this into a successful site, you should expand it into an authority site.

Niche sites aren't dead (as you showed), but the future is in branded, authority sites.

Just be sure that whatever page you're adding is at least somewhat related to your target keyword. You don't want to confuse Google to what your site is all about.

If you found EMD then you can create a site on that, it works, recently you got EMD penalization but those websites were penalized which were doing spam, less quality, black hat work.

Thanks again everyone. After reading all of this I think I'm going to do both just like Iceware suggested.

Yeah, I would add it to the ranked domain - I got the filling that once you hit the "lottery" and get your site well indexed and ranked -you gotta leverage that out with other niches on the same domain...
