How Often Should I Post Content on my Sites

I have a few websites. While come are old, some are new. They say that it takes at least 6 months to generate good traffic flow. So my question is - for new sites should I keep writing posts everyday for 6 months until "good" traffic starts flowing or what?

As for old ones since some are already attracting traffic, how often should I update them?

You should add new content as often as you can.

More important is to make the new content relevant, interesting and to add value as perceived by your site visitors.

The only reason why traffic increases after adding new posts is cause those new posts start to rank, if your site has any credibility with Google.

It's also nonsense that it takes 6 months to generate good traffic flow.

You should only add content if it gives extra value to your site.

Just posting to post in the hope that it will catch on after 6 months is the most flawed strategy I ever heard.

What I often do is this:

Step 1: Build a site with let's say 25 posts
Step 2: Build a few dozen high PR blog posts
Step 3: Wait it out a bit to see where it settles, mostly around 100 unique visitors /day
Step 4: Add a new batch of 25 posts as well as a few dozen more high PR blog posts

Now I look what happens, if my traffic doubles then it;s worth the investment.

If it doesn't double then I consider selling the site

If it does double then I add a new batch of 25 articles again without building links.

If the traffic increases by 30%+ from that new batch of articles then I keep on adding content.

If it doesn't increase by 30%+ then I see that as a bad sign and a good moment to sell the site.

That way, if you're into flipping obvious, you always find the right moment to sell from a cost efficient perspective.

    Why?

I can only link out so many times from my network, after that the links would get more expensive.

If I have to add 25 articles and I only get let's say 20 unique visitors in return, then it's more efficient for me to start a new site in a different niche where I expect to get 100 unique visitors easily again.

Thing is that you always start a new site with the best available keywords and after that you run out of those juicy keywords.

I was going to write an answer to his question, but didn't know where to start. This covers a lot of it.

There is no set amount/time frame to post content...News sites post daily because their readers expect it/want it. A site about world war 2 rarely posts content because not much is changing.

Just adding content no matter how frequently will not do much of anything for your site unless the on/off page factors are also dealt with, as Nik0 mentions.

You need to start thinking QUALITY over QUANTITY.

No one (even Google) cares if you post everyday, 2 times per day or once a week. What matters is that you're writing great stuff.

If you look a top blogs in the IM niche (social triggers, quicksprout etc.) they post once or twice a week.

And there are plenty of crappy sites with no following or links that post everyday.

I know what site model I want to copy...

I would say: As often as you can. People want to read NEWS, not articles from 3-4 years... And one more thing, the article that you wrote yesterday is a past You should write one new today ... (if you have time of course and if the niche allows you)

When I create a new website I usually also create 30 articles. It's expensive but worth it if you know what you're doing. Then, I autopost them so there's a new article every day. It usually helps rank the website very fast. After the 30 days, add 2 articles a week to maintain rank.

I start with at least 20 articles and then post weekly.

why is this bs answer always being posted?

there is NO set amount of articles to write/update per day/week

    it depends on your content.

if you have a celebrity blog, you should have like 5 articles a day or whatever.

if however you have a site on rubber tires, where the technology for rubber tires has not changed in over 100 years... it makes no sense to a normal human being or even google that there are 5 articles coming out of that website daily.

Lots of good advice. Thanks all. However, if my website is on rubber tires and not much has changed in techno for over 100 years, shouldn't I update my site at all? And if I don't post regularly, won't bots visit my site less often? 1-2 posts are enough weekly?

I have one site that I haven't posted any new pages in about 1 year, earnings have doubled/tripled YOY on the last few months. Granted when I first started that site I was posting about 1 new page per day on average for a solid 2 years, then linking back from a high traffic same niche forum that I don't own, I had traffic before I ever built this one site.

Same niche forums, that's where the consistent traffic is at, give them what they ask for & they'll keep coming back while recommending the site to anyone that's interested in the same niche.

I think the one thing that helped me most with traffic was consistently posting content people were literally asking for on the niche forum. It also helped that I was interested in the niche.
