Safe to use PLR on own site if can't find it elsewhere?

I just wondered, if I've got my hands on some very well written PLR articles that really fit with my subject, and I check on google on some of the sentences to see if I can find if they've been used/indexed anywhere else, and they haven't, I assume I'm safe to use them on my own site without fear of dupe content penalty?

I don't want a debate about duplicate content penalty, just wondered if PLR can benefit my site if I can't find it used elsewhere.

    There is no such thing as a duplicate content penalty for syndicated content. Duplicate content involves duplicate content on your own site from the same domain. That's not a debate. That's a fact. So of course you can use the PLR on your own site.

  • Hi Sentient, you are free to do what you want with PLR articles. If you can't find them around, it's better for you.

    I did the same on a personal blog I opened with PLR articles I bought 5 minutes before, and it went really well as I sold three $47 products in 1 week without external SEO.
    They were PLR articles about a famous health market

    But most depends if you are really the first to use them... Otherwise Google will not select your contents.

      This is completely untrue. It is suggesting that there is no duplicate content indexed in Google and of course, there are millions of duplicate articles indexed in Google.

  • No problem using them, especially to get a new site up quickly, but add your own articles as well over time. Better still, get someone on say Fiverr to rewrite the PLR into human readable spintax.

    Ok, I accept the dupe content is not an issue. I guess I should have asked - will I get ranking benefit from PLR articles if I can't find them being used elsewhere?

    And the answer from Alessandro is in his experience they can work well.

    Anyone else got any experience of this?

      There's no doubt that Google loves tons of unique content and that should help to get traffic, but ranking depends on other factors as well, like social proof is one of Google's favorite measures of the importance of a webpage now. So social media backlinks and on page SEO would be factors in ranking.

    I don't mind you believing that, Alessandro, if you really want to, but it helps nobody when you try to pass it on to others as "advice".

    It's precisely because of people perpetuating these urban myths that people end up so confused about this sort of subject.

    As Suzanne rightly observes, above, it's just completely untrue. Sorry.

    I hear you. I hope you'll tolerate some comments about that in the interests of having some misinformation corrected, though - otherwise you can't realistically get help from the forum at all, and wouldn't know whom to believe anyway?

    The answer is that you're completely "safe" from an SEO perspective to use PLR (which you own) on your own site whether it's previously been published or not, but none of that has any bearing on whether doing so will be beneficial to you.

    Also, you should check carefully the terms of sale under which you bought it, because quite a lot of PLR is sold subject to the proviso that it may not be published without first being rewritten.

    • Even if they're not indexed and very well-written, it's still a good idea for you to add your own unique spin to the content. You don't have to rewrite the content, though. Instead, add content to it. Intersperse some added paragraphs with personal stories or experiences, along with some of your own thoughts. That will make for more engaging content, and give your readers a reason to follow your site over someone else's on the topic.

      I don't often disagree with Alexa or Suzanne, but in this case, I would like to point out that PLR content is not the same as syndicated content. PLR content gets used under any number of different author names; syndicated content does not. While the duplicate content penalty in this respect is a myth, I also think the algorithm is pretty good at detecting PLR content that ends up all over the web under different names. You may not get slapped, but you won't get the SEO benefits from it if you use it the same way everyone else is.

      I wouldn't rely on Google as my only traffic source and I certainly don't worry very much about optimization. At the same time, it's foolish to ignore it completely if you have an informational website. It only takes a few minutes to add in some unique content and make both the readers and the spiders happy. I think it would be short-sighted not to do so.

    Google has said that not all duplicate content is the same, it's on the search blogspot (Google it). I know your talking PLR but Google has said that scraped/duplicate ecommerce pages (ex: scraped/copied Amazon page) can be dropped in the SERPs.

    The top social sites isn't necessary for ranking pages. I rank plenty of pages & could care less about the large social sites (FB, Twitter, etc...). I'll take targeted niche forum traffic over the large social sites any day.

    When ranking the page (PLR) you need better SEO than anyone else that post the same content on their site, that's pretty much it. Doesn't matter who post the content first.
