I haven't read it yet, but consider putting some links to different sections. 12,000 words are a lot and it's hard scrolling through to find the information you are looking for. I'll give you a review when I'm done reading it

Thanks for a very in depth Link building article , must of took quite a bit of research. Like the use of the box where you share to read further on . What plugin is that or is it custom made?

Thanks man! This is exactly what I needed!

Just a quick question, do you restrict the numbers of tier 1 website from a specific platform? I understand that you make tier 1 sites from different resources, but can I for example make 50 tier 1 websites from wordpress.com and point them to the same money site without problem (as they links from the same IP)?

      Really depends on my strategy.

If i am building out say an EMD or mini site, i will throw all kinds of blog networks, web 2.0 sites, articles, whatever at it as a tier one.

Basically, i want to push the boundaries to force them to rank. Sometimes they dont rank, other times they stick around. There really seems some variance with Google in this matter.

So to answer that question, i dont really sweat whether i have 10 tier one links from blogspot, 10 from wordpress.com, 10 from tumblr etc. Generally speaking i just throw everything at it.

The value you would get from 100 web 2.0's on different IP's, vs 100 on 10 different IP's will be different. Assuming all things are different you want extra IP/domain diversity for obvious reasons.

Generally speaking though, i wouldnt fixate on stuff like this, theres more important uses of your time.

I read through your post. How do you prevent your links from appearing on porn websites? I used to have a website which was linked to excessively from porn websites for reasons unknown :/

You can't really. Although you can take measures to research networks and what content they do and dont allow before you sign-up.

I know people in my niche who have done negative SEO on my money site and pointed a tonne of comments links at my site, 90% of the pages had other comments from sites linking to porn, viagra and stuff like that.

      I disavowed those links.

Does your link building strategy involve not only posting
a link , but having it in your sig as well?

I assume forum posting is #1 in your "ultimate guide"
to link building. One would not even need to read it.

    Hi Andy,
Just got through your guide. Well done, and well written - nary a grammar hiccup or spelling mistake.

Looking at the dark arts section of the guide, and considering my role as an SEO charged with cleaning up link profiles now causing major problems for clients of mine who've engaged in questionable techniques and are now living Google's wrath, are there any tools out there that you'd employ or have heard of that best identify link types and/or have the ability to determine whether or not G would consider them spammy?

We use a a combination of OSE or Majestic and merge with the much often larger backlink lists from Webmaster Tools and when faced with an "unnatural links" warning/impending penalty from Google will begin the process of manually reviewing links, requesting removals from webmasters, and then considering for disavowal. Considering your high level strategy it's unlikely your money sites are being targeted, but for clients who don't have the budgets or balls to invest in a tiered strategy I'm thinking it's the only way?

And finally, at what point (# of spammy links discovered) IYHO would you recommend we insist client consider abandoning a site altogether if penalized and faced with months and months of clean up of their link profiles? In some instances it is seeming futile, but clients are so married to their brand names/domains that to even make the recommendation could have them looking for another SEO firm...

Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.
    Cheers,
    Jeff
