Menu and pull down box for SEO

I have a menu of buttons runing down a column on the left of my web suite.
Googe sees that and recognizes it for SEO.
If I were to make it where you hover the mouse over a subject and it creates a pull down box of subcategories would Google see that and would it help create more keywords for searches?

A good rule of thumb is if it's made from HTML anchor text like: <a href="link">link</a> Google will see it. If it's made out of anything other than that like Javascript onclick, or Flash, Google won't see it or will have a hard time seeing it. At least Matt Cutts confirmed this already.

Instead of having drop down button, have all the sub categories shown on the home page. Only html code will help you for better SEO results..

If the sub-categories menu renders as UL/UI HTML tags then it is recognizable by SE but if it something done in JavaScript, then I am afraid SEs wont see it.
