Should I start a new blog?

I have a blog about 2 years old and it was doing ok until last year with the Google panda updates and it lost its rankings. I don't know if I had penalty or anything but I still get minimal traffic from it. I haven't really done anything with it since.

Is it worth updating and adding articles to the blog or would be wiser to start fresh and build a new blog from scratch?

I am sure many have been in the same boat and just wondering what your experiences have been after these months or any advice moving forward.

    If it's a self hosted site, I would try to build it back up. A domain with some age to it would be better, Pay close attention to Google's webmaster tools to get an idea what you can do better.

      I use Google Tools but not that familiar with the features, what sort of things should I be looking at to make the site better :confused:

    List down all your ideas for making it a better blog and do some research. It might be a good idea to start with a clean slate.

          Could be because I was using SEO processor, I am not sure - I was perhaps using too many keywords in the H1-3 etc Maybe also the way the blog was set up back then with internal linking etc.. these are just guesses because all content was unique and I didn't link to anything.

            It doesn't have to mean that Moneyland had bad articles on the site before... Google is vicious when it comes to updates. A lot of people with great sites lost ranking after Panda, especially smaller sites.

            Moneyland, you should figure out if the old site has a topic that is in demand, and whether you're passionate about that topic. If one of the answers is no, then start anew. Be brutally honest with yourself!

            If however you are both passionate, and the topic is in demand, then continue posting, clean it up a bit, and go from there. (You can figure out the demand by doing a thorough keyword research.)

            Ultimately the success will depend on the quality of information, and whatever else you're offering on the site, so basically on your site's quality.

            Granted, google can come up with another algorithm update, and totally screw you. However, if you make a site with great information/products, and have a good way of capturing the visitors' emails (a good newsletter, other offerings, etc.), you'll be ok. You may lose ranking, but the people who find value in your site will keep on coming back.

    I had a blog before and stopped it, once I tried to buy my domain name again, it costed $287, 3 years later... I regret it now.

    If I were you I would keep running the same blog unless you decide to completely change its main subject.

    Keep the domain name, just get rid of the bad content and dedicate yourself to offering new, unique, and useful content. The readers will come back.
