Over Powering Page One

Hi All,

We have a client who a few years ago had some problems with his business and received a lot of negative feed back after getting into trouble. The business has continued under the same name but unfortunately when you Google the company name you get the following rankings:

1) Their website
2) Their website (a micro we created to try and remove the below)
3) Bad video about them
4) Bad video about them
5) Bad video about them
6) Twitter
7) Bad forum post about them
8) Another bad forum post about them (on another forum)
9) Yet another bad forum post about them (on another forum)
10) LinkedIn

Does anyone have any ideas on removing these videos, overpowering them with our own results etc? They have a Facebook profile with a good 1000 likes (but still won't achieve page one) - as well as a Motor Trade Book profile, a blog and so on as well as a fair few micro sites (sitting on page two at the moment).

Thanks!

Liam

I think a better question would be: Is it worth trying to beat all of your bad reputation when you could just get a new domain name, it doesn't mean you need to change your business name.

Build strong web 2.0. Send links to them and bump the other stuff off.

Or maybe send a few best fiver link campaigns to the ones you want to bump off, that should handle it pretty quickly

If there is more bad rep than good rep then i wouldn't even take on that client. Its just not worth it.

He said when someone Google's the business name, that stuff comes up, so yes, he it is a lot more than just getting a new domain.

Besides, getting a new domain, for a real business, is a horrible idea. They often have business cards, print advertising, and a ton of other crap they would have to spend money on to change to the new domain. Not to mention their past customers that still like them and are continuing to use the domain to find them.

It is so worth it. More work means you can charge more.

Not sure why you think likes on a Facebook page has anything to do with its rankings, but they don't.

Yes, your best solution is to rank other properties that belong to them and knock off the other stuff from the first page. A Facebook page, a YouTube video, Twitter profile, LinkedIn profile, a Yelp listing, a blog page, etc.

Yes I agree with you, in normal circumstances, but this a bit out of the ordinary.
It's not un-usual to have a company called Annes Flowers, that sells flowers to be called 'Annesflowerdelivery.co.uk' for example.

By the sounds of it, having old customers that still like your clients website seems to be a bit unlikely by your description.

Okay, using your example... If someone Googled "Annes Flowers" the domain comes up and all this bad press as well.

So if they change their domain name from 'annesflowerdelivery.co.uk' to 'annesflowersdontsuck.co.uk', and someone Googles "Annes Flowers", they still have the same problem of the sites with the bad press coming up in the search results.

Changing the domain name does absolutely nothing to help them.

Other way is request all the sites, video sites, forums to remove those bad reviews, show your business identity and provide proof that you are owner of the business, competitors are doing these things...

Looks like the company has a really dirty image now. Might be time to take a page out of blackwaters playbook.

Thanks for the feedback - however these bad forum post pages, YouTube videos still continue to almost dominate page one. Sometimes we're able to knock off a good 5 or 6 of them but they manage to creep back up.

    One confusing point:

There are 3 YouTube videos being indexed for the companies name (negative videos about the company). We've created a YouTube channel that has a lot of videos and hundreds of thousands of video views - yet even when searching the company name on YouTube itself these bad videos come up first before the company channel and the company channels videos. Strange!

You can get pretty easily rid of YT videos. Simply ask their company workers and everyone who is connected with this firm to "flag" YT videos, saying they are BS and lame or whatever. Eventually they will get deleted.

ORM basics anyone? Outranking a forum thread + youtube videos should be an easy thing to do. Build a video with a positive review and backlink it with your company name, rinse and repeat 5-6 time until you clean page 1.
