On April 24, 2012, Google rolled out the first Penguin filter, which affected approximately 3.1% of search English queries. On May 25, 2012 and October 5, 2012, Google rolled out Penguin 1.1, which affected 0.1% and 0.3% of English queries respectively.

IMO, Penguin is the most troublesome filters that black/grey hat SEOs have to contend with. I don't know about you, but all of the links I build are done with Penguin in mind. Anchor text percentages is something that you should always consider when dropping a backlink.

Search Engine Land published an interesting article on preparing for the next Penguin update and dealing with risk.

Risk Management for Links - How To Prepare For The Next Penguin Update

On Penguin's one year anniversary, I am tensely awaiting the 4th iteration of the Penguin filter. Am I the only one?

The spam team at Google have hinted that Penguin 1.4 will be a big one. Let's hope we all get through this one.

Is this topic about promoting for your own fame?

If a billion sites exists, that 3% of amount could be
    3% of 1,000,000,000 to 30,000,000

I'm hoping for an even tougher Penguin update - some spammers just haven't got the memo yet.

And yet it seemed that 47.4% of website owners shat their pants.

Penguin was a blessing in disguise for many people.

I've seen a lot of people transition from busting out crappy niche sites like best-toaster-reviews.info to creating real sites and brands.
