A few Adsense tips for beginners...

1. Use the Large rectangle 336x280. You can obviously test these but I have found this to be most effective for high Click Through Rate. They don't look like obvious ads to a lot of people seems to be the reason.

2. Blend in the ads with the rest of your website. If you have a white background on your site the border and background of your ad should also be white. If you are using unusual colours you can always create a custom palette to blend it in. Again this helps not to appear like blatant ads.

3. Place the ads in prominent positions on your site. Place them at the bottom of the page and you will not get many clicks. Headers and vertical banners at either side of the main body will do better. The best results in terms of CTR I have found are placing ads immediately in the body of the text normally just below the title and at the bottom of the article. The downside is it doesn't look great and may put some people off your site.

4. Put your important links above the adsense and make them more prominent. Any product links or affiliate recommendations that convert well should bring in more income.

5. Automate the insertion of your code. If you are using a wordpress blog and frequently add posts you can save time with a plugin. I use Who Sees Ads and you just set it up once and then insert a small bit of code into your articles.

Hope these help...

  • Hi,

Here are some really great tips to generate more revenue from Adsense.
  • that's basic tips but good for newbi , i have more adsense tips in my site . but thanks anyway
  • No arguments with any of those suggestions. Good post, especially for new Adsense users.

Let me add that you can really rake in some Google cash by optimizing your pages for higher paying Adsense phrases. It's not an exact science, of course, because you never know whose ads will show on your page (and what they're paying to have it there). But, I've found that you can ballpark it pretty well with some research. I was really alerted to the importance of this awhile back when a newer site of mine got an Adsense click that paid me almost $10! ONE CLICK! I have another site that only makes $2 or $3 a day from 50 clicks. Sigh.

If you're into picking niches to get into with Adsense, it's a good idea to include payout research as well as the standard stuff you research (competition level, search numbers, etc.). It's one thing to rank well for a niche that pays 2-3 cents per click. Then it's a numbers game and you must drive a ton of traffic to make much money. It's another ballgame when you find niches where you need minimal traffic because the clicks pay so much.

    • @zeus66, how do you do research for the possible Adsense payout?

  • I agree, definitely worth testing the size of ads. I like this size best if I'm putting the ads in the article content of blogs, but different websites and positioning will come into it.
