Change in Title and Meta Data results in loosing positions and traffic?

Just want to know that for one of my website they have not updated right keywords in the Title and Meta Data. So, in this regard I am planning to change the same by updating right keywords in Title and Meta Data and my question is if I change it would it result in loosing traffic as well as ranking positions. As I have tried it for one of my website and took sometime to gain the back rankings for right keyword.

Your thoughts on the above queries please....

    Of course changing titles can effect rankings.

    Don't get it - you are changing keywords in title to rank for them so you already know the answer.

      I am worried that the person who has taken up the project earlier had not placed right keywords as part of the Title and description, now we are getting most the searchs using the brand name rather than keywords, so please suggest what I should to do in this situation whether to replace it with new keywords or else continue using the existing ones.
