What (if any) Niche / Keyword Software Really Works?

I been considering research software for finding small niches, keywords, strength of competition etc.

Some of the names that have cropped up are 'Micro Niche Finder', 'Market Samurai', 'Keyword Elite', 'Niche Browser' & 'Niche Finder', although there are others.

Do any of these actually work, and of the ones that do is there one that you would recommend as being the 'must have' solution?

Thanks

Market Samurai does basically everything, but I find it far too slow. I'm using Long Tail Pro at the moment which does everything I need, e.g. check the competition, searches and how my keywords are ranking.

Market samurai used to be the best. Now its competition tool is not as good as before.

Market samurai does the job for me. In terms of rank checking, competition checking and more.

Anyone else got any feedback on Market Samurai or Micro Niche Finder?

James, nearly all of these types of software offer free trials. The best bet is to trial out each of them and see what best fits your wants and needs.

My vote goes for Long Tail Pro though.

What I do is, I find good KW's with LTP (good exact traffic and good competition according to the tool) Then I take these KW's and put them in MS and use the SEO competition module. This works like a charm, because LTP finds the keywords fast and MS's competition module is a lot better than long tail pro (IMHO).

I use a combination of Adwords tool and SEO MOZ Pro - Everything else is either A) too slow B) inaccurate C) Too pricey for what it is.

Another vote for Long Tail Pro. The platinum plan is great for measuring competition.

To use any tool you really need to know SEO in the first place.

The keyword competition score on any tool is a very general benchmark.

Unless you know how to look at things like trust, domain authority, brand signals and all the other things Google cares about (but the tools don't pick up), the tools aren't going to be much help to you.

But if you know that stuff, Niche Finder is a good option. Never tried LTP and don't really like MS.

Google Keyword Tool to research the keywords.

Traffic Travis to analyze the top 10 competition.

Excel / Calc to sort all of the data.

All 100% free and MUCH better than any other solution I've tried.

How does TT compare to MS re competition analysis? What database does TT use?

I developed my own tool using seomoz metrics to judge keyword competition. However I only use it when I launch bulk websites (100-200) at a time. What I do sometimes is use the Google Keyword tool then analyze the serps just by looking at it. It takes experience to judge competition like this, but in the meantime you could use long tail pro.
