.ORGs get a big boost in latest Google Algo change?

Are you guys seeing .orgs near the top of the rankings recently?

I've been doing some analyses for local clients and am seeing .orgs that are not as well optimized outranking sites with more links.

Does anyone know what's going on?

  • Nope, indeed I let a couple of .orgs go recently because they were not seeing the output that I'd expected. Perhaps, many more .org owners felt the same and you're now feeling the benefit?

I'm sceptical that your rank movements have been caused by any TLD factor but, then, I'm not in the local markets. Chuck us some stats!
  • It will be a co-incidence, there's no logical reason the big G would favor them over others, imo .com ranks slightly better than .net which ranks slightly better than .org which ranks slightly better than .info,.. .us,.. .co,... .me, etc......
  • Can you sight anything to confirm your remark?
Because I am too noticing some decent results with .ORG domains. I have a strong feeling, it may not be a con-incidence.
  • But, almost all my newly .ORG's emd rank well.
  • Rofl, where do you guys take such information? .com ranks better than .net -> .net ranks better than .org ???

    It's utter nonsense. For real.

    • Here's a sample of what I've been seeing. It's not as dramatic as it looked 3 or 4 days ago. I would swear that last time I checked these .orgs were ranked above sites that looked far more optimized. It doesn't look as strong to me today.

I guess your searching for .org sites because I rarely see them for keywords I target.

    • I wasn't searching for .orgs. I was doing SEO research for a criminal law attorney in San Diego and noticed that two .orgs kept ranking well in heavy competition despite the fact that they were seemingly not as well optimized for the search terms.

  • I know it sounds like horseshit, but SEOMoz did a case study on this a while back that showed .orgs getting a noticeable boost in the SERPS. Of course google may have changed things since then and this is something that I wouldn't even bother to test. If I can dig up that case study though ill be sure to post a link.

Overall I actually like .orgs a lot better than .coms's depending on the niche. For certain terms (like medical) a .org can convey to the user a bit more credibility/authority. This is the only reason I sometimes prefer them, and not because of some alleged ranking benefit. Just my opinion so take that for what it is.

Which one is horseshit, Moz or the .org?

Just kidding, I know it's Moz.

  • my .org website still suck in ranking.
  • I don't think that .org can get a better ranking than .com ONLY because of this .org domain... I think SEO and domain name is much more important... You can also rank let's say a .ws domain and get a better SERP than .org and .com domains if only you work hard!

    • Not seeing these results either. Actually found .org's to do worse? But maybe that's just how they are treated?
