Are these Google Plus paid ads?

Hi everyone

I have an offline dog grooming business in Newcastle Australia that I am just starting to try to rank the website for.

I have created my main website and a Google Plus page that I have linked to from my main website.

When I look at my target keyword in Google I see the following results for Google Plus pages for my competitor's businesses under the first 2 organic search results:

What I would like to know is if these are paid results from the Google Plus ads program or if these are organic and if they are organic how do I get my Google plus page to rank here?

I don't think that's a Google+ results. That's a local result but somehow Google incorporated the Google+ page when they upgrade Google Places to Google+ dashboard.

    G'day fellow Aussie (oy!, oy!,oy!)
Did you notice that those results are also linked to Goggle Places?
Don't rely on one medium to get on the first page, sus out the quantity and quality of backlinks the other sites have got and then use them all from at least the 1st and second pages of goggle and she'll be apples.

Also, you made need to start thinking about paid traffic to your site from Facebook ads or other,
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers and Beers,
    Scotty

They are organic, this is how results for location based searches are returned.

The screenshot in OP is simply local listings & doesn't look like they all have a G+ page listed in that screenshot, a few show G+/links, but not all of them.

Thanks. I wondered if these were organic or not cause when I setup by Google Plus page it asked if I wanted to participate in their paid ads program for Google Plus and I wondered if my competitors were doing this.

I have used SEO Spyglass to have a look at the backlinks for my competitors. Pretty much none of them have any backlinks. I think a few at the top have a few PR0 backlinks but compared to what you normally see for keywords it is practically nothing.
The Yellow Pages listing and the Gumtree listings are only ranking there because of the domain authority from what I can tell. There are no backlinks to the individual page showing in the search results.

So what type of links should I get to see my website get to the top?

I know I can write an article and post it at Ezine Articles or I can do a press release (but this will be global not location specific so will that help?). I could do some Web2.0 pages about dogs and grooming and link them back to my site.

But after the Google updates like Panda etc. would these type of links be seen as spammy? And they of course would not be from local sources... is that a red flag for Google?

Would these be helpful or what type of links can I get?
