Updating, Undating & Deleting Old Content

Currently developing a SEO and content marketing strategy for a client. The client has content going back a few years, but I want to do a reorganize and revamp.

How do the experts here think Google treats the following:
1. Removing dates from content?
2. Altering and updating old articles with fresh material?
3. Deleting outdated content?
4. Reclassifying and moving materials (specifically articles and blog posts) around the site to better suit the needs of visitors? (This one I'm not sure would penalize the site by appearing as if we're merely moving it to be crawled, but it would truly serve a better purpose in a different location.)

Thanks for the help everyone.

Don't just delete old pages that you no longer want (even If it's outdated content), 301 redirect those old pages/URLs to a similar newer page.

With that being said, first seriously consider If the page still serves a purpose.

Thanks. Assuming I leave the material up-- what's the best approach to the other questions?

You can definitely delete the dates without a penalty. But that's more for user experience than anything else (Google has the cache to determine dates...it doesn't need to be posted on the article).

I'd definitely update any out of date stuff and especially delete/consolidate redundant content into comprehensive, single page posts. If you make them visually appealing you can actually turn 5 old/weak posts into a linkable asset.

You should also just do a quick check using ScreamingFrog to see if there are any duplicate title, description etc. issues going on (common with clients that don't know much about SEO).
