Keyword missing from search

I have a little problem with a keyword, for just over 3 weeks now the keyword that I want to rank for has just disapreared from google search... At first it did fluctuate quite a bit falling from 30th to 120th then back up again, and now nowhere...

If I use the Serps Checker website it show that my keyword isnt in the top 300 anymore, and also if I manualy look for the keyword likewise I cannot find it... But when I go into Google Webmasters Tools it gives me avg position of 41st for the month, if I narrow the dates for the avg position it gives me 12th for the last week...

The question I have is If I'm not ranked for this keyword any more why does Google Webmasters Tools give me an avg position...?

I have lost a number of links for this keyword recently which might account for the fall...

  • What I mean to say is that my site doesnt show up in the rankings for that keyword now... makes me wonder if my site has been penalized for that keyword only, is that possible...?

    • How old is the site and how long have you been going after this keyword? It's possible if you have a newer site that Google was ranking the keyword for a bit and now it has determined that your site doesn't deserve the rankings it had before. This is common for new sites.

It’s accurate and reliable in terms of giving you the exact SERP and keyword ranking. You get the exact rank no matter where in the world you are.

    • Many thanks for the detailed reply, I do believe that my ranking fell due to a loss of quite a few links for the keyword... I think I need a better backlink strategy than I have used in the past.

      Just signed up to the recomended Microsite Masters site, just waiting for the password for it now...
