Hello everyone , i read a lot about this subject and i still have not been able to make my video thumbnail appear in SERP. I am mainly using Wordpress blogs and i would like to know more about it, which plugins do you use for this purpose and your tactics.

I found 3 possible solutions for plugins , Yoast Video SEO and WP SEO suite which both add Video sitemap , and Simple Video PRO (many people say it can help you get your videos in serp but i dont know how).

What do you think about it ?

Thanks

You don't need video sitemaps to get this done.

Juste mbed a YouTube video using the iframe method.

The next time your page is crawled it should be indexed in Google videos, which makes it eligible to show in Universal Search with a thumbnail when Google considers video results to be relevant to the users' search.

If you want to check to see whether a page has been indexed or not, all you have to do is to go to Google Videos (Google Videos) and search with the following:

    Site:www.YourSite.com/YourPage_URL/
    Signature

    nothing to see here.

You cannot force google to do anything, and I'm not sure why
people still try. Google shows thumbnails for videos on youtube,
      and sometimes from a webpage.

Not all searches will warrant a video even. Google tries and determines
what searches warrant a video. "How to" searches, music, video clips,
etc. are probably most apt to get videos. Google is no fool. They' send
people to youtube more often than your site.

You need to win with 3 things:
Your page needs to rank high for the search term.
Your search term must warrant videos.
Your page must have an optimized video for that search term.

It also seems that the pages will have a video embedded at the
very top. Very top of a page is important anyway in SEO. I also
believe that google likes to show thumbnails of videos for sites
that have a plethora videos on them.

You can't just have a page with a video and expect google to show
      a thumbnail in the search.

        Amen to that.

You don't need a video to rank a video thumbnail image in Google text search for self hosted sites/pages, it's been like that for years & still like that today.

It's all about text/links & how you setup the thumbnail image to be shown in Google text search.

As far as search traffic expecting a video after clicking a video thumbnail image in the SERPs, a flash slideshow is equivalent to a video (without actually creating a video) & yes flash will rank If the images are pulled from a remote xml file.

Does it mean that your video should be named as your title ?

I am not trying to force anything , i understand what you said. Its just those little peaces and tactics that can increase your chance of achieving that i am interested in.

What do you think about those plugins for exaple ?

Video metadata is already indexed by search engines organically, but human-authored video metadata can optimize your content indexing.
Metadata is also preserved when a user downloads your video file. If Google can understand the content on your web pages (including images & video),
they are better able to create "rich snippets" - or detailed information - that better distribute your content among search results.
In the context of video, metadata covers the title, the subject matter (in the form of a description), relevant categorical tags,
the desired publication date, the video length, dimensions, thumbnail, and the video author. That said watch this video on how to do it. How To Add tags titles and more to your video file - YouTube
